Title: ht lead length.
Post by: RODeo on July 31, 2011, 01:10:33 PM
Something Ive never encountered or thought about when car building....
I want to move the coil out of sight on my Reliant engine. At present the HT lead (coil to distributor)and LT lead are around 9" long. The new position will increase these to about 24"long each. The LT lead is pre made ,and from memory is a sort of silky type of copper wire inside the insulation,so I wont disturb this wire, just add on to its existing female spade end with a male spade. Can anyone foresee any probs with this or the increase in lengths of cables, especially the HT lead? ? The coil is going in the gap between bellhousing and frame, lowdown. It will have a sealed cover over the connections to prevent any water penetration.

The shorter the HT lead the better, but I cant see any problems. Dont forget, Coils can get hot so they need a little room around them.
