Title: Hand brake cables?
Post by: DIZZY on July 20, 2011, 09:03:20 PM
Another well asked question? well here it is again......having used the golf mk2 calipers, what is the normal route for buying / making hand brake cables to fit as one will need to be longer than the other?  ???

Last lot I had made came from Speedy Cables

http://www.speedycables.com/index.html

they're fast & professional, but they ain't the cheapest.

I bought some inner and outer cable from Vehicle Wiring Products..about £6/metre..then made up my own nipples and outer cable stops.

Well, i have the 2 original cables that came with the calipers,(bit of luck) so i might have a chop and play with those. At least if i make a mess of those, i can either buy made to measure or buy the bits and make up my own.

cheers guys  ;D

check the ends, on a lot of handbrake cables, the ends screw onto the outer sleeve

I purchased a sierra one from ebay £7 :) cut the centre piece so that I had 2 seperate cable assemblies, then just unscrewed the ends on the outer sleeve, cut the outer sleeve to the required length after test routing it round the trike frame, then screwed the ends back on

recently I took the ends back off and used heatshrink sleeving on the cable outer, stops it rusting and rubbing paint off
