Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: nabsim on June 14, 2011, 09:37:07 PM Very nice. Can I ask a question though, if it is a bolt on swing arm conversion how much pain can you put on that towbar? Or do you hav esomething I cant see in the pic connected to it? If and when I ever get all my other projects done I want to do a swing arm conversion see ;)
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: rob62 on June 15, 2011, 09:27:46 AM Hi nabsim, all ive towed is a small camping trailer but im sure it could manage more. think i am more limited by the 750 engine than by the bolt on back end.
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: klogan45 on June 27, 2011, 10:23:48 PM Very nice, even better with no collector box, they're a pain in the exhaust system ;D
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: zakboy on June 28, 2011, 04:57:13 AM hey rob as the axle been shortned on your xv
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: rob62 on June 28, 2011, 07:54:38 AM hi zakboy, the axle is standard. Thought about shortening it but it seemed like extra hassle when we where trying for a quick(ish) build
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: zakboy on June 28, 2011, 09:40:01 AM hi rob,i just wandered because i noticed you were using the origanal bike lights and indicators on the back do you have any probs with mot, i would prefer to do the same as i think the exstra lights i have put on the back may be draining my battery i have put a new battery on but when i go out any where and stop when i come to start the trike again its as if the battery drained and can not start it off the button have just brought a multimeter and will check the charging system later to day to see if there is a prob there.all the best zak
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: rob62 on June 28, 2011, 12:37:36 PM hi zak. Never had a problem with the mot , but i use a very sympathetic test centre ;) ;). if you look closely at pic you will see what looks like two chrome nuts at the right of the no.plate, these are small red LED lights that act as position marker lights. despite their size they are quite bright and need very little power to run.hope that helps
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: zakboy on June 28, 2011, 01:19:24 PM i have a very sympathetic test station to, cheers rob thanks for that info
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: Cabman77 on June 28, 2011, 07:36:45 PM hi rob,i just wandered because i noticed you were using the origanal bike lights and indicators on the back do you have any probs with mot, i would prefer to do the same as i think the exstra lights i have put on the back may be draining my battery i have put a new battery on but when i go out any where and stop when i come to start the trike again its as if the battery drained and can not start it off the button have just brought a multimeter and will check the charging system later to day to see if there is a prob there.all the best zak Didn`t notice this before Zak. It may be a Viagra quirk. If I leave mine standing, with a normal lead acid battery, all connected up, then after two weeks the battery is sulphated and unuseable. I bought a gel battery and when I leave her standing, even only for a day, I disconnect the battery (there`s a terminal in the main power wire just in front of the battery). Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: zakboy on June 28, 2011, 08:16:32 PM i checked with a multimeter to day to see if there was any charge going in to the battery and the meter was showed no change when revving the engine, so i decided to have a look at the regulator, on the later model its behind the left hand side panel i noticed straight away there was an earth cable that was coming from the regulate but was not connected any wear not sure it was supposed to be or not any way thought i would connect it and test it again this time the meter showed a higher reading as i raised the engine revs even when i put all the lights on it wasant quite what it should of been according to the manual but then the test should have been carried out with the battery fully charged witch it wasant dint have time to take it for a run today but hope fully i may have found the prob weather the regulator as been damaged or not because the earth wire had not been connected i don't know, but it is definitely putting some charge in now going by the meter reading, just hope its enough
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: rob62 on June 28, 2011, 09:25:21 PM think the reulator/rectifier is supposed to be a case earth, but if mounted onto some decent paint its best to run an extra earth lead to it. I earthed mine to the engine and seems ok.
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: spanners on June 29, 2011, 12:10:48 AM hi,zak as far as my knowledge goe,s and + some/alot of expieriance it looks like you just found it ;)
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: zakboy on June 29, 2011, 03:25:57 AM hi spanners,i hope so its a bit of a pain wandring every time i go out and stop any where if it will turn over when i get back on it, will try and give it a run later today see if it,s cured it if not think i will have to replace the regulator
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: Cabman77 on June 29, 2011, 06:41:17 AM It`s too clean and tidy basically!!!!!! Use and abuse mine and it keeps on going on :D :D :D :D
Title: Re: xv 750 Post by: zakboy on June 29, 2011, 09:23:33 AM i think i will try abusing it a bit then.... i gave it a couple of kicks kneaded and swore at it a few times before i got on it today if it don't charge the battrey now i may just resort to head butting when i get back ;D ;D ;D
