Title: Borgward
Post by: Manky Monkey on June 12, 2011, 09:19:10 PM
I was chatting to someone a couple of days ago & he mentioned once owning a car called a Borgward. Never heard of them.
Then this morning I stopped at a newsagents in Aldershot. As I came out I glanced across the road & saw this. A Borgward Hansa.

Never heard of a Borgward, blessssss (and you can't say you're too young either), how's about Moskvitch or Volga?

Kinda alternative motoring 70's style.

The chap I spoke to was in his 70s & had lived a lot of his life in South Africa. Where were Borgwards made?

Alas, I remember the old Waltburg Knight...... a pretty car it wasn't.

From wikipedia -

Wartburg was a car marque manufactured in East Germany.

The name "Wartburg" derives from Wartburg Castle on one of the hills overlooking the town of Eisenach where the cars were manufactured.

From the 1950s, Wartburgs had a three-cylinder two-stroke engine with only seven moving parts (three pistons, three connecting rods and one crankshaft).
