Title: Punctures.......
Post by: RODeo on June 08, 2011, 06:11:22 AM
How do bikers/trikers deal with punctures whilst on a trip? What stance do the AA take re this?I seem to recall years ago there was a can of repair stuff available that you could connect to the valve, some sort of sealant? I was told it knackered the tyre inside as it was a bitch to remove the stuff, but did get you out of trouble,as it inflated the tyre at the same time as sealing it.

that stuff really works as witnessed by myself this weekend 7 quid a go
but there is a product called run flat that stops the tyre deflating if it punctures 10 quid a tyre now if you have them big wide expensive rubbers that seems a fair price to me

I`ve never had the problem on 2 or 3 wheels (touch wood).
Did have problems a while back with the car though, flat tyre on the M4, pulled over and dug out the spare, that went flat once i lowered the jack!
Crawled off the motorway and found a filling station, Holts Tyreweld to the rescue! inflates the tyre & seals the hole, but as you say, knackers it up inside.
As far as the AA go, I`m a member and would fully expect them to come out and assist with whatever problem I had.

Our youngest daughter had a peugot twist n go ped thingey, got a screw in the back and the front at the same time. Holts tyre stuff squirted into both tyres and then a little ride round the block, bit of air in to get them up to pressure and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Never had a problem with them. An old XS650 I had had both innertubes sealed with the stuff and I didn`t find out til about 3 years after I bought it when I chopped the bloody thing, never had a problem with it though. ;D ;D ;D ;D

in the past on my bike (tubeless tyres) i have used puncureseal, bloke puts some gunk in the tyre and job done, nails go in punctureseal fills hole when nail comes out, mate of mine got an m10 bolt in front tyre at ovr ,, ahem 100 it didnt stop the puncture but it slowed the air escape enough for him to get to the hard shoulder, will be getting it put in my trike once its on the road

Many decades ago, when the World was young!,I got home by packing straw into a front tire that had a valve pull out of its tube. Of course that was in the days when we carried tyre levers and puncture outfits on trials bikes, and there were even clips for a pump provided on the frame of the motorcycle, happy days!! Nurse, nurse, my sleeping draught!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read a story in MCN last year of someone using this stuff and the tyres slipped round the rim and then off at about 60 mph, was quite a bad accident. It appears the stuf overlubricated the rim so the tyre wall had no grip on the rim.

no morrag you keep it in all year round only renewing when you change tyres  :)
and cabman iv never heard of that hope the rider was ok tho,,, and like i said iv used it in many bikes until getting the dragstar now i carry tyre levers, puncture repair kit and air canisters due to having tubed tyres but will be having it in the trike, cant do with gerrin stranded on that due to a lack of wind in the wheels

,FINELEC,, thats it i remembered thats the stuff i used to carry/use for emergancy commercial puncture,s and it worked ,,bloody well,,

used to keep it behind the seat in my truck and had it in stock at work it would repair and re,inflate a small truck tyre or repair a larger one with the help of another airsupply
it was approved, passed for use on psv,s i.e  buses and coach,s
