(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u277/bigjay-vtr/my%20trike/ABCD0019.jpg) sorta resembles the trike in the plans that came with the trike (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u277/bigjay-vtr/my%20trike/TRIKEPROJECT.jpg) but the original builder got it a bit errrm wrong so i have been playing got her looking like this (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u277/bigjay-vtr/my%20trike/DSC01571.jpg) then decided to reduce the rake so the forks worked and i had ground clearance will post more fotos when i put them on fotobukit Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: big jay 257 on May 22, 2011, 07:19:02 PM photos sorted,, here she is as of today :)

Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: Manky Monkey on May 22, 2011, 07:44:58 PM Ha!
That's Sandy's trike in the black n white photo. I was having fuel problems with my own Reliant trike when his appeared in Back Street Heroes, (he also did a similarly styled Ducati chop). At the bottom of the feature was an ad for his new bike building business. So I rang him to ask about jet sizes etc. Turned out he'd built his after seeing mine outside a pub in Stratford on Avon during the Bulldog Bash weekend! I had the magazine photo of his on my garage wall & he had photos of mine on his. Lots of potential there Jay. Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: big jay 257 on May 22, 2011, 07:57:57 PM you are quite right the plans do say sandy's on them, dunno if he was selling them out or if someone stole them but whoever it was that started it made a pigs ear of it, my only minor worry is that now i have re-raked the front end the trike sits higher at the front (even with lowering the front) by removing the top spring from the forks and sliding the forks up through the yokes,, so now the engine sits high at the front and i have little room to adjust this,, ill just have to run her and keep my eye on oil issues (if any) also the original welds were well a little shat so im going through them and re-doing them and adding loads of gussets (because i like that word)

Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: RODeo on June 13, 2011, 10:39:01 AM Just a thought.......are you going to change the clutch lever to the opposite side of the bellhousing ?
Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: big jay 257 on June 13, 2011, 09:34:09 PM allready done just havent cut the other one off yet lol
nice little cluch operating rod i made :) (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u277/bigjay-vtr/my%20trike/DSC00759-1.jpg) also a carb relocaion jobbie (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u277/bigjay-vtr/my%20trike/DSC00758-1.jpg) and front mudguard mount (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u277/bigjay-vtr/my%20trike/DSC00011.jpg) Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: RODeo on June 14, 2011, 06:22:18 PM Another thought....Make sure you have a return spring on the clutch arm to keep the chain taught,as well as keeping the thrust race off the clutch plate .
Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: big jay 257 on June 14, 2011, 09:18:11 PM Another thought....Make sure you have a return spring on the clutch arm to keep the chain taught,as well as keeping the thrust race off the clutch plate . cheers for that hadnt thought about keeping thrust race off the clutch, chain is welded along the inner edge so it is in effect a solid rod :),, i like when people pop in suggestions,, as shown here i missed summat lol Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: RODeo on June 15, 2011, 04:05:51 AM Not trying to be picky, just trying to help!...I fitted a spring between the end of the clutch arm and the x-member immediately behind it. You only really need about 4mm of play to keep the thrust race clear.
On the old A35's,which are basically the same g/box and use the same type of thrust race etc the recommended play, overall, allowing for a bit of slop in the linkages is ,I think, 3/8" at the pedal. They have quite a chunky return spring, but a lighter one is ok for the reliant (I experimented a lot!)especially as your foot may ache with the pressure of a heavy spring! Rod Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: big jay 257 on June 15, 2011, 10:55:25 PM really appreciate the heads up rod,, i accept that i may miss things as this is my first project of this kind, and as iv taken on someone elses start and im re-doing 90% of the work i may miss/toss up and not see it, so any input/criticism is good for me :) i will not be offended if anything i welcome the input of others :)
Title: Re: my trike re-build Post by: zakboy on June 16, 2011, 05:23:49 AM really appreciate the heads up rod,, i accept that i may miss things as this is my first project of this kind, and as iv taken on someone elses start and im re-doing 90% of the work i may miss/toss up and not see it, so any input/criticism is good for me :) i will not be offended if anything i welcome the input of others :) well spoken jay, this is what its all about, to help and learn from one another and to help us pick up on things that we may have over looked, there is always more than one way of approaching a particular job, input is always encouraging, constructive criticism is a good thing makes us stop and think again at the way we are going about our projects, which all leads to a much safer and enjoyable end result,....keep up the good work as I'm sure when your project is finished there will be things to learn and pick up on that will be useful to other members thinking of starting similar kinds of projects. ;) zakTitle: Re: my trike re-build Post by: RODeo on June 16, 2011, 06:36:37 PM I agree! Ive built cars in the past, but without the wealth of trike knowledge on this forum I would never have been able to get as far with my build.I've learnt loads, mainly by asking the most basic Q's!
