Title: Re: Beaulieu Spring Auto Jumble Post by: Tony oily bike on May 19, 2011, 07:32:28 AM Seem to remember a company called "Crayford Conversions" that did estates too ???
Here's a related story: "First Jaguar Estate Car?" Back around 1958, Britain had Mike Hawthorn as Grand Prix world champion. He also used to race other formulae (as they did back then, including Le Mans), as well as running a garage called The Tourist Trophy in Farnham, Surrey, dealing in Jaguars I believe. His road car was a rather tweeked Jag, which he was unfortunately killed in on the A3 Guildford bypass. The reason for this rambling is that my father used to work in the bodyshop for Hawthorn's garage, and between them, they were going to build a Jaguar estate car, taking a rear-end accident-damaged saloon (which they had), with my father making the estate part. This probably would have been the first Jag estate, but with Mike's untimely death, the project never happened......... Mike's buried in Farnham cemetary.
