Title: warning re rustoleum paints.
Post by: RODeo on May 08, 2011, 07:59:14 AM
Hi All
I bought some dark blue rustoleum spray (min order of 6 cans!)Have sprayed my frame ,waited a few days .rubbed down ,recoated the dodgy bits ,it now looks excellent. I also ordered a 1 litre tin of rustoleum for brushing on,same colour and RAL number . I opened it today to hand paint parts of the engine ,and found that altho' it has the same RAL number on the tin it just isnt anything like the dark blue of the spray. Its more of a mid blue, sort of darkish baby blue!
I thought this stuff could only be got from Rustoleum direct, but apparently my local paint people have a mixing machine for it at another branch, which is where I got mine from.I asked them several times whether it was a bona fide Rustoleum machine ,and they assured me it was. Obviously theres a part of the mix they havent put in OR the machine isnt delivering the correct quantities! So beware ordering at different times ,best to buy all from one batch.Going back to Kent Blaxill  tomorrow to get my money back.

I've heard of Rustoleum, but never used it. Is it like Hammerite? Hammerite seem to have changed their formula over the years -doesn't seem to cover half as well as it used to. Probably had to remove various chemicals to comply with European regulations or summat. I assume it's oil based. I didn't realise you could mix it like normal paint.
