Title: kitten to be reborn a zzr11 kitten
Post by: madkitten on May 03, 2011, 08:40:57 PM
hi all the title speaks for its self , yes i got kitten and its going bike power .
problem is i know a bit about robins alot about cars and bikes but nothing about kittens and even less about converting them. anyhows i know what i wanting to do with it but don't know how hard or maybe even near damm impossible some things may be .  bike engine fitting seems fairly easy to me . going to make a subframe similar to the bike frame to use engine mount bolts and will brace along both chassis rails to help chassis roll. wanting to make wide wheel arches and skirts . make new bumpers ect bonnet vents .
running gear i will worry about it bit by bit . iffy bit is axles brakes and which am sorted for rear axle and discs. but what about discs for the front .??? not a clue lol.
also wheels . want wider and will need bigger to take disc conversion but what size will fit the kitten without altering original suspension and bits. ???   does anybody on mm motors know a bit about kittens or possably even about pimping them!!! any help is a step in the right direction . thanks

Not knowing a lot about modern jap crap japanese bikes, I take the zzr 1100 is chain driven?
If so, a lot of bike-engined kit cars use jap inline fours mounted inline. You can buy adaptors for the propshaft which slide over the splines of the output shaft where the normal sprocket fits. That way you can fit the zz lump in the same direction as the piggy engine, and not have to worry about an extra subframe.

this was advertisedon another forum but might be worth alook or phone call it has everything you need for the lump http://locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/34/viewthread.php?tid=154710 unless you have one

hi yes that's right . the easy bit is fitting the engine . the prop will bolt straight onto the front sprocket prop adapter. all it is a front sprocket with a flat piece of metal welded to it and turned true on a lathe and holed . easy as that . got all my diagrams and measurements for the engine fit .( probably end up throwing them in the bin and making it up as i go along lol but i want to try to be organised this time . not like my last 10 projects lmao. but really need to know about wheel sizes i can use with using disc brake conversion and remembering that wheels got to clear standard suspension set up

Yamaha XS750, 850 & 1100s used a "bevel box" -a seperate unit which turns the drive from the gearbox through 90 degrees to hook up with the shaft that drives the back wheel. When you take it off the engine, you have a unit with a splined shaft on one end that will accept a sprocket, & a flange on the other to bolt to a propshaft. Perfect for chain/shaft conversions. Chris Ireland, ("Desperate Dan"), used them extensively when he was trike building.

Andy to the rescue again knew it was a yamaha that had the box

If you wanted to be really clever get a belt drive made up instead of chain and sprockets  ;) ;) ;) ;)

yer but missed a point a bit . im not using a chain . chains r st**. no chain . a sprocket adapter goes on final drive splines like a normal front sprocket would . instead of teath its got 4 holes which you bolt the prop onto   no chain . well cool better than any chain or belt . but nice idea

I have seen a reverse unit off an mobility scooter used on an XV1100 trike and it looked quite good, the body of the unit is brass or phospher bronze I`m not too sure, and worked extremely well.

Quaffe reverse units are gold -but they cost a fortune.

If you google tl1000 kitten it brings up one that I first saw on Retro Rides. In its first incarnation it had one motor but later gained another one!
