Title: A gift from Mr Manky
Post by: Cabman77 on March 20, 2011, 05:56:17 PM
In his usual level of almost infinite kindness I recieved a gift from Mr Manky. These indicators run two bullet type bulbs in each light, and I was/am a bit concerned that they`ll stay in place, especially as they`re wired in inline and if one goes they both go. I haven`t wired them in yet just want to see if they`ll take the vibration from the old girl. Have thrashed her up to Chelmsford a couple of times this week and so far so good. If necessary I`ll rewire them so each bulb is seperate so I can afford to lose one and not lose the whole indicator. They do look the dogs dangly bits though. Thank you Mr Manky.

As you can see my old baby is still evolving slowly as time goes on.

My pleasure matey. I am a benign, magnanimous dictator.  ;)
I try not to make a profit out of you guys -if I've got anything you need, you get it for what I paid for it, & the indicators were a freebie. Enjoy!

Manky,  them there indicators...  whats the technical name for them?  i searched online for "bar mounted indicators" and all i came up with were those ones that you put in place of bar end weights...  but them indicators would solve a little dilemma im having...

Cheers

Jonno

Those ones are for 1" bars. The ones I got from Mr Manky have fitted 7/8" bars perfectly.

I've PM'd you Wynne's email address Voodoo. Try him on that -& let us know if he's trading or not please.
I'm not an indicator manufacturer! They were thrown in for free when I bought some parts at the recent National Street Rod Association swapmeet.
There's a Harley swapmeet coming up in Dorking, Surrey on Sunday 3rd April, (Mothers Day). They're just the sort of thing you'd find there.

Finally wired them up after extensive vibration testing and they light up but I`ve blown the flasher unit, don`t think it was man enough to cope with running 6 bulbs, that and the fact it`s over twenty years old I suppose. But they do look good in the dark. New flasher unit on it`s way (car one) and one for Cuddles trike too.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

after the arrival of two MG flasher units I set about getting them to work again. No Joy!!!!!!!!!!! The wiring for the indicators on the viagra is a bit odd, using a control unit and a flasher unit. The latter only has two wires going to it. Managed to wire the new unit in and got them to light up but still no flashingness!!!!!!!!!!!!! B****x B****X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
In desperation I put everything back the way it was, old indicators (after repairing a mysteriously appearing crack in the left hand one!!!) and flasher unit..................................they work perfectly.................even better than before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven`t got a clue as to what the problem with the handlebar mounted ones is, I even took out one bulb to see if that made a difference, and run a wire to the earth wire (the handlebar ones eart through the handlebars) and nothing. It`s a real shame as they look soooooooooo good on the viagra. I`ll have to cogitate on this for some time and, hopefully the answer will come to me in a flash of inspiration when I least expect it....................................who am I kidding????????????

I`m gonna try and fit them to Cuddles trike, that needs a bit of re-wiring anyway so I should be able to deal with the problem. They look so good they just have to be used. ;) ;) ;) ;)

EUREKA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................at least I think so. Run a tester over said beooootifull indicators and lo and behold they`re shorting out through their own body. The wires don`t appear to be isolated from the screws that are holding the lamp holders in place, therefore a short circuit occurs. What I don`t understand is how they lit up at all with a dead short!!!!!!!!!!????????? The solution now needs to be worked on. Watch this space  ??? ??? ??? ???

I like the look of those too. Have you sorted the shorting problem yet?

Haven`t re fitted them yet but I believe I have solved it.basically it was a clear silicone rescue!!!! Just had to isolate the live end of the bulbs from the body which it earths out to. Not been too well for a few weeks and had a couple of days work each week, which knocks me flat to be honest, so nothing done to trike or bike in at least 3 weeks posssibly 4 can`t quite remember. :) :) :) :)
