Sounds interesting.......... The area's doing pretty well this Easter as Odiham only about 15 mins away from Rushmoor Arena which has the Wheels Day on Good Friday.

Went to the RAF Odiham about 10 years ago (???) with Dslam to talk about hiring it for a motorcycle sprint, really friendly bunch of petrol head guys. They even took us for a guided tour of the control tour.
Only problem back then was although we could have booked the place, there was a caveat that if needed, the event would have had to be pulled (at even a days notice) to allow the aircraft to use the place, which sounded fair as this was at a time when the military had 'something going on', so we declined the booking, shame as it could have been pretty good.

We also made enquiries about hiring Dunsfold (where Top Gear is filmed) as they have a verrrry long super-smooth runway. Think they had some restrictions as to Sunday meetings and times / noise for the locals which I think made it a non starter, but did get to ride the sprint bike I had at the time up the runway so the guy could get an idea of what we talking about (which was nice), and then drove round the Top Gear test track in, wait for it, a little Nissan with the bike on a trailer!!!! ::)

Bit more info from The Odiham Motorcycle Club  http://www.omcc.co.uk/  as they have this on their webpage

Straightliners
It's official, we are teaming up with the Odiham Car Club who are hosting a Straightliners event at Odiham on 25th April.
Costs of £45 are on a per-vehicle basis and payable on the day. We have been allocated 40-places for bikes to participate.

Cool! Like a modern version of the drags at Blackbushe airport in the 70s.
I'm still aiming to trailer my Pop to WheelsDay to cruise the arena. Hmm, wonder if it'd stand up to some quarter mile action?!

i remember going to blackbushe

I remember going to Blackbushe AND I remember coming back home as well  ;)

...and before anyone says, it was for a drag meeting and not to the market!  ;D

Think my first drag meeting there was August 1971, which according to my maths, is near as makes no difference 40 years ago!!! ouch!! I bought (and still have) the #1 issue of National Drag Racer (15p of my hard earned pocket money) which included the programme.

In fact I saw the UK's first "2CV Cross" meeting at Blackbushe as well, guess that would have been 1975.

Where does the time go...................

When I was out and about the back lanes of Dorset one time I met the 2CV owners club out for a run - they seemed to be having an awful lot more fun than the Jaguar owners..........   ;D

Maybe the 2CV Owners were having a lot of fun as they'd never been so fast before.... after all, you can get to around 15mph running if you're fairly fit  ;D

Here's a site with loads of 2CV photos that'll prob make most folk smile or shake their head in disbelief

and here's a piccie of a 2CV that most definitely ain't slow (wanted to show "French Connection", a '70's flip body 2CV dragster, bit couldn't find one)
