Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: reliantman on June 26, 2006, 12:29:30 PM I have pinched these two pics off the BTW-US forum, and have just emailed the owner for some details, but untill he gets back to me, any idea's on how the drive is done?
Using the beetle back end, there is a bloody great tube stuck in the way of the suzi drive shaft, unless they have cut a chunk out of it. If it was done in this county, perhaps a sierra diff? Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: reliantman on June 26, 2006, 06:25:49 PM The diff does seem quite high up. Perhaps it clears the tube.
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 07:50:28 PM Not very clued up on V Dub drives. Lunatic or Triker Pete would be the ones to ask. Looks more Sierra-like to me but if it's American, could be just about anything couldn't it.

A really nice bunch of Peeps with a lot of Knowledge between them. Not much on the customising front but good for Tuning tips etc I used to be a member. Is the club mag still called Hustler? :) Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: ByzMax on June 26, 2006, 09:57:30 PM Looks to me something like a sierra type diff job. Judging by the angle of the driveshafts it has been mounted high enough to get the propshaft from the bike over the tube to the diff.
;) Hope that helps Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 10:03:15 PM How's the Yam going Byz? Not tackled mine for a few days but Janie_Postie & Dave_Postie are coming over on Wednesday to give me a hand with smoothing my frame welds out. Hate being transportless. Gotta get something on the road soon!
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: ByzMax on June 26, 2006, 10:14:21 PM Ah!!!! The Yam. It's coming along. Fitted the servo + master cylinder and part of the rear brake mechanism. Also made up the brake hoses/lines for the rear.
Been fitting some double glazing and plastering for the couple next door so not had as much time but got back to it today. Will hopefully be ready to go for powder coating next week sometime. Loads and loads to do!!!!!!! Glad your gonna get yours on the move again. How long do think it will take to get back on the road. Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 10:40:54 PM When I took it off the road I said it'd only take a few weeks to knock up a new frame & hang all the old bits back on it -that was about a year & a half ago! Dunno why, just life in general getting in the way all the time. There's really only a week or two's worth of afternoons to make & fit all the mounting tabs, footpegs etc, then I've got to find someone to fabricate an electrics box for me, (biggest problem for me is a lack of materials to make stuff from), make a prop, mudguards etc. Once it's done I've got to MSVA it too. I reckon it's gonna be the end of the Summer now before it's back on the road, but I'm not planning on ever changing it again so worth taking the time to get it right.
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: ByzMax on June 26, 2006, 10:53:59 PM If I can do anything to help let me know.
Trying to get hold of materials is difficult. You have to build up contacts and try to maintain them. Hard work :P Will hopefully get a trike on the road meself soon :-[ Have been thinking about slinging a VW together asap. Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 10:59:10 PM I've got a friendly sheet metal worker in Newbury, but with steel getting so expensive now it's getting tougher to pick up off cuts. Our first attempt at box making was on Flap's orange trike. Looks O.K now it's hung in the frame but the heat of the welder distorted it so it doesn't sit flat. I know you should do a million small tack welds & let it cool etc, but I'd rather make my own from something a little thicker which won't cause so many problems. Anyone near Basingstoke got a couple of square feet of 2mm steel sheet they don't want?
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 11:04:38 PM I'm waiting on a free VF750 Honda that's been promised to me. Will hopefully get that up & running before the good weather disappears! I could throw my trike together in a couple of weeks if I was desperate but I'd only end up being unhappy with it & pulling it apart again.
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: ByzMax on June 26, 2006, 11:05:17 PM Got a sheet metal fabrication shop near me and get all my stuff from him. Cost a few quid but always has large pieces available and can cut em too.
I do have some that might be suitable for your requirements. Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 11:12:19 PM Hmm, remind me again -where are you? -yeah, sitting in front of the keyboard obviously, but you're over Windsor way aren't you? Yeah, interested if you've got it to spare.
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: reliantman on June 26, 2006, 11:14:43 PM I got an E from the suzi/vw bloke, and he says the thing is chain driven. Don't know how but I bet it is complicated. He says he is doing a shaft drive next.
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 11:18:25 PM So it was a V Dub set up then? Wonder what the gearing's like?
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: ByzMax on June 26, 2006, 11:19:37 PM Hmm, remind me again -where are you? -yeah, sitting in front of the keyboard obviously, but you're over Windsor way aren't you? Yeah, interested if you've got it to spare. Yeah got a fair bit lying around. Will try and get it to you. When do you need it for? Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 11:25:20 PM I'll come to you if you like -don't expect it delivered! No mad rush for it. Still sorting out the frame, but sometime in the next month or so would be fine. :D
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: ByzMax on June 26, 2006, 11:33:05 PM Ok. If i'm down your way I will let you know though. ;)
Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 26, 2006, 11:48:34 PM Very much appreciated Sir.

If i'm down your way I will let you know though. ;) Hi Byz, dont forget... if you ever near our place you always welcome :) That goes for all members. if you know you are going to be this way, "P M" before you come for my phone number 8) Cant guarantee cake though :) Title: Re: Suzuki's Post by: Manky Monkey on June 28, 2006, 09:41:42 PM No, not if I get there first!
Byz, hold fire on the sheet metal for now chap. Been chatting to Devon Tony on the 100% Biker forum. Says he can make me up a battery box if I give him the measurements for "a few drinks". If you happen to be in the area though, could do with some off cuts for general use. 2 - 3mm mild steel sheet. Will pay you for them obviously, but don't go out of your way to deliver them. As Pete said, feel free to drop in. I live in a shoe box sized flat but can always find a nearby pub for a pint & a natter. Hi Byz, ive borrowed a dizzy from Lunatic, Manky was good enough to ferry it down to the 3b's rally for me (Thanks very much to Lunatic & Manky). Hopefully I will get around to trying it this w/end, that should help eliminate the problem or not. |
