Nicely done roof chop, but why the blanked out rear windows?
I only very vaguely remember what a standard Moggy looks like under the bonnet- what motor's that Chris? Looks like a standard A series but the gearbox tunnel seems bigger than that would require. I was expecting a Rover!
Very tidy looking car.

Nice looking car and the chop looks the biz

Post by: poprodder on November 14, 2010, 09:45:55 PM
cheers guys,
the engine is a 1098 stock apart from metro carb and fanny mold.
stock gear box, prop and back axle, disc brakes on front.

it only weighs 700kgs so scoots along with just that motor!!!

heres a view underneath.

Looks just like mine that I had back in ohhhhhh about 1967?  I always remember there was room to stand in the engine compartment alongside the engine!  Not sure what year mine was but the reg was 589FMM and it had a starting handle which came in very useful on freezing mornings!  Of course it was no good if I had forgotten to leave it in gear with the handbrake OFF as the handbrake would be frozen on!
Oops sorry to rabbit on, just brough back memories, you can have your thread back now!

Title: Re: morris issigone

its a bit light at the rear!!!
as i found out last week, on a roundabout!!!

Title: Re: morris issigone
Post by: kapri on November 28, 2010, 06:17:35 PM
I've taken the scenic route with the POS on a couple of occasions like that Chris. Mine is down to it being a bit too hard on the rear suspension and not enough weight to fully plant the 10 inch wide rubber in the wet.

Title: Re: morris issigone
Post by: Manky Monkey on November 28, 2010, 07:48:13 PM
Yeah, I suspect a transverse spring & 50 year old steering box, coupled with tall, skinny cross plies at each corner's gonna make the ride, erm, interesting in my Pop too!

also when out today, i was sat at traffic lights, when i heard a toot-toot thought lights have'nt changed yet, what with lack of visibility upwards!!! look to the right and theres an old boy in his 70's looking at me, thought he'll either wave his fist at me or wave, he waved so i duly waved back, embarassing things was, he got up the hill ahead of me due to a  sunday driver in front.

heres a pic of rear seat, this was made up by sailmaker at work during breaks etc, not much time went into it,
the vinyl was roof material suppose to go with my hotrod pop!!!
its got piped edges, velcro to hold down. made to my patterns so if it don't fit i know who to blame!!!
at least the kids will have something comfy(ish) to sit on!!!

Your own in-house upholsterer -that's handy! Where do you work to have sail makers onsite then Chris? I'm guessing it's not in a garage.

So, as a future roof chopped hotrod driver, I'm curious to know what it's like to drive a chop top in normal traffic. I asked a guy at a show last year & he said, Well, you don't see the sky very often.
Any problems I should be wary of?

Title: Re: Mental Morris.
Post by: poprodder on January 29, 2011, 08:13:45 PM
no problems, as long as you don't mind people looking at you, and coppers waving at you, well i think thats what they were doing!!!

got some paint here to splash about, just trying to find out how much laquer i need for roof(metalflake, complete coverage)

Title: Re: Mental Morris.
Post by: poprodder on February 26, 2011, 06:28:55 PM
hi,
i've had problems for a while opening the bootlid, had problems getting latch off to access the handle bolts so decided to remove lid,
it was then i found out the square bar on handle was'nt long enough and was only just into latch resulting in handle turning then clicking as bar slipped.
i wondered if a pop handle would fit, well with a little filing and welding it will, just so happens i've a brand new one in stock of parts i've got.
did'nt have a key for old one, so that killed two birds with one stone!!!(also saved me best part of £30!)

also i've got the paint for body so as lid was of seemed rude not to strip it, weld holes up that are'nt needed an get some paint on it.
this is where its at now.

some rust spots to deal with but nothing major.

boot lid back on with change of colour, will have to take some pics!!!
also got a parcel stuck at sorting office(not open on a bloody saturday!!!grrr..) filled with a big shiney(i hope) piece of metal for front of morris.
it will change the front of morris completely, yes kustom here we come!!!
just need to find some 13" steels instead of those god awfull gay alloys which i've never been keen on!.

Title: Re: Mental Morris.
