Title: Re: Brooklands Museum - Weybridge - VSCC Driving Tests - Jan 09 2011 Post by: Tony oily bike on January 04, 2011, 07:07:49 PM 04-01-11: This weekend for those interested in seeing some of the really old stuff (similar to some of the stuff photographed at the New Years Day events at The Pheonix and in Bournemouth)
VSCC link http://www.vscc.co.uk/vsccweb/events/events.jsp?action=1 http://www.vscc.co.uk/vsccweb/events/event.jsp?id=640 Brooklands website doesn't show this on the "Events" page for some weird reason, but does show it if you download the Events Calendar ??? ???, so I dropped them an email, and they say IT IS ON. This is how they tested cars on the Test Hill "1925 style" http://www.motorsnaps.com/v/1920s+Racing+Cars+and+drivers/1925/Brooklands/1925+brooklands+test+hill+-+archie+frazer-nash+_frazer+nash+.jpg.html And here's the Napier in action back in 1937 and outside it's current home the museum (apart from when it visits certain events such as Goodwood) There's also a Concorde at the site............ Title: Re: Brooklands Museum - Weybridge - VSCC Driving Tests - Jan 09 2011 Post by: Tony oily bike on January 09, 2011, 05:55:19 PM After a frosty start with black ice on the roads, the sun came out in like a good un in dear-old-Surrey, with a beautiful blue sky backdrop.
There must have been around 100 Vintage Sports cars at Brooklands, all there when I arrived at 9.30, so their journey, without heaters (in most cars) and on skinny tyres was probably an event in itself, then they decided to blat about doing autotest driving tests for the next few hours, crunching gears and spinning tyres on these wonderful historic motors. A friendly atmosphere and good access to the vehicles, along with the museum's usual exhibits and the welcome sunshine made for enjoyable few hours. Here's a few snaps to give an idea of what went on at the World's first purpose built race track. Wikipedia - The SCAT (Societa Ceirano Automobili Torino) was Italian automobile manufacturer from Turin, founded in 1906 by Giovanni Ceirano. The company was active from 1906 to 1932 and achieved Targa Florio wins in 1911 and 1912.[2] The first produced models were the 12 HP, the 16 HP and the 22 HP of 1909. Brooklands is only a few miles down the road from us here in Surrey & it's easy to take local landmarks for granted, but it's a fascinating place to visit. History in every inch of the track. As always, we'll stockpile the photos & your words for use when we relaunch the main site. Thanks Tone. :) |
