Entry via the Campbell Gate off Brooklands Road for pre-1973 vehicles, whose occupants will receive a discount of £1 off our usual admission prices. Parking in and around the Paddock and on the Finishing Straight for these vehicles. For those just turning up to look at this wonderful display, as well as the rest of the Museum and its exhibits, there will be parking in The Heights off Wellington Way. The bar and restaurants will be open for our traditional turkey-free New Year’s Day lunches and snacks. Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Tony oily bike on October 06, 2010, 11:58:28 AM Went last year and was pretty good.
Brooklands used to have a Vintage Driving Test day (sort of autotest for oldies) on new year's day which was also well worth a visit, but have moved it on a few weeks the past few years, not sure of the dates for 2011 as yet but will inform the forum when I know. New Years Day aslo has the gathering at the Pheonix. Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Manky Monkey on October 06, 2010, 09:01:51 PM Yup, it'll be the Phoenix pub gathering in Hartley Whitney, Hants for me as usual.

Taken from the Brooklands Museum website http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php? Some 60 pre-war cars will tackle a dozen different tests around complicated courses laid out on the historic Brooklands track, with drivers competing against the clock while trying to avoid any penalty-attracting mistakes. All sorts of pre-war cars are expected to take part ranging from stark sports-racers to stately saloons and even a few spindly veterans. Tests will take place both morning and afternoon. More vintage cars are also expected to be on display in the Paddock. Visitor parking is in The Heights off Wellington Way or in the Museum car park at Mercedes-Benz World. Visiting pre-war cars may park in the Paddock. Contact: Donna Hopton events@brooklandsmuseum.com 01932 857381 ext 253 As best I know........ Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Tony oily bike on January 01, 2011, 03:02:29 PM Here we are with the first Manky (literally) event-report for 2011.
Set off to Brooklands at about 10.30 on a dry and not-too-chilly new years day, called to Dslam's house for a cuppa, and then set off to Brooklands arriving around mid-day, showed the membership cards so free entry, and parked the bikes in one of the few spaces left. The place was heaving with people and vehicles, the most I can remember seeing there in all the 20+ years I've been going. A fair old variety too, ranging from the racing Blower Bentleys through to the man-in-the -street type of car from the 60's, from a Delorean to motorcycles, from little Italian cars to a '59 Caddy, plus a handful of custom metal. The event had a really friendly family feel to it with like minded folk wandering around, and then the weather decided it was going to drizzle (well, this is England!!) but most people simply ignored it, the drizzle went and came back, we'd seen all of it, so time to see how the magnetos felt about making sparks in the damp – hefty kick after the British bike starting formalities – fired up a treat, no sweat, so a gentle amble home. Would seem from the journey home that the damp weather didn't make it as far west as the Phoenix, so hopefully all who made it there had a dry drive/ride. Car below is a De Lorean (stainless body), production run from '81 -'82, so I guess he went back to the future to get in to the "pre '73" event ??? ::) Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Tony oily bike on January 01, 2011, 03:03:23 PM Healey 3000

Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Tony oily bike on January 01, 2011, 03:08:50 PM Morgan look-alike. This one's a Triking with a Guzzi engine.
Triking were the more expensive alternative to the real Morgans, JZR being the other big player, and a fair bit cheaper. Car to the right is an Jenson Healey GT. (Unusual car, but from the info I have, production was 1975-1976 for the GT) Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Tony oily bike on January 01, 2011, 03:09:45 PM Rod

Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Manky Monkey on January 01, 2011, 04:33:59 PM Looks like a fine day out was had by all Tony.
I passed a blower Bentley driving Brooklands-wards on the A3 as I was heading to the Phoenix meet. That yellow buggy may be Mr Goforest's, or one of his buggy boys. Nice report Tone, thanks. We'll stock-pile any write-ups you lot send in & add them to the main site, along with event photos, once we're fully online again. Oh, & yup, the Phoenix stayed dry! ;D Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: renegade53 on January 02, 2011, 08:39:39 AM yup it was go forest saw him as he was leaving. far too much modern stuff there. apparently according to entry notice and on the brooklands web site it was pre 73 so i wasn't impressed. didn't take that many pics only about 50 odd.
Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Manky Monkey on January 02, 2011, 09:47:20 AM Mr B, who organises the Boxing Day classic meet in Romsey, has extended the cut-off date for classics from '72 to '76. Makes a big difference to entry numbers apparently. I wonder what my truck will be classed as? It's based on a 1953 Ford, but will have a Q plate.
Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: renegade53 on January 02, 2011, 10:30:18 AM by modern stuff i mean 08 09 and 10 plates mercs and a lambo. a new fiat 500. BORING
Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: Tony oily bike on January 02, 2011, 11:07:02 AM Reckon the Mercs that were there could be because of the relationship between Merc & Brooklands ???
Looking at the photos I put up, the Triking, Jenson and De Lorean all all post 1973 !! Rascals! Overall, we thought it a pretty good turn out............ Title: Re: New Years Day Gathering @ Brooklands Post by: BikerGran on January 02, 2011, 12:30:34 PM I wonder what my truck will be classed as? It's based on a 1953 Ford, but will have a Q plate.
