Title: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 18, 2006, 08:50:30 AM I think this is one of the subjects we lost when the forum crashed.
My brother Steve bought himself a bloomin' great mobile library van for 1800 quid from Ebay. He's converting it into a transporter for his drag car. This weekend's job is cutting the arse end out & fitting a drop down ramp so he can drive the car up into it Italian Job style. The thing's hooge -about twice the size of my flat & will be kitted out with workshop & living space as well. Hope he's going to get it sprayed up with his race logo down the sides. It'll look awsome thundering along the motorways to race meets. Looks like something out of ThunderBirds doesn't it! Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Speedmaster on June 18, 2006, 01:08:30 PM Mobile libraries dont thunder anywhere, they sort of chug ;D
Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 18, 2006, 08:44:43 PM ;D
Especially when they're lugging a car inside 'em! Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: wizzkitt on June 18, 2006, 08:49:44 PM Looks like something out of ThunderBirds doesn't it! Um, with all due respect to Steve, no. It looks like a mobile library. 8) Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 18, 2006, 08:55:36 PM Hello young Wizz. I've missed you. Where you been?
Doesn't really show in that piccie, but that thing's absolutely enormous. Steve's due back on the track at the Nostalgia Nationals at Avon Park in a couple of weeks after a top end rebuild on the car. Don't know if the new transporter will be there. I'm sure it'll be easy to spot & no doubt will have a kettle on board should you come across it. Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: wizzkitt on June 18, 2006, 09:03:49 PM Hello young Wizz. Work-work-work-Shires-ProCustom-work-work-work-Farmyard etc. Got home at 4.30am this morning 'cause I have two features to write before tomorrow. Not sure when I'm going to be able to get to a meet next (which is galling as the splendid NSRA has invited me to and given me a guest pass for all its events this year), but the next month is booked already. :( Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 18, 2006, 09:09:35 PM Ooh, you lucky so & so! Cost me 15 quid last time I went to Avon Park ...sorry, Shakespeare County Raceway -stupid, stupid name. Mind you, I've been late in the day a couple of times when the gate's been deserted & I've just ridden in.
Still doing the Diamond Day do? How was the Farmyard Party? Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Desperate on June 19, 2006, 09:27:53 PM Here's my transporter.....errrrr......well, it's actually my missus's horsebox, but it's sort of mine too. Had a new sign made to cover "Horses" on the front. It often has an "Iron Horse" in the back.

Where'd you get the sign done Chris? Is that printed aluminium or sticky vinyl? So how's the Indian going then? You pleased with it? Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Desperate on June 20, 2006, 12:42:54 PM Sticky vinyl on perspex. Mate works for a sign company. I suppose I am quite pleased with the old bike!

Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: wizzkitt on June 20, 2006, 08:13:25 PM Ooh, you lucky so & so! Not so much luck as twelve years working in a trade to the point where people are kind enough to issue such invitations. Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 20, 2006, 08:43:45 PM Yes Hon. I'll shut up then.
Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Desperate on June 20, 2006, 09:54:04 PM Monkeyman, feel free to plunder my site as you wish, as long as you give it a plug. And I'll do the same with yours. f**k all this copyright s**t, eh?
Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 20, 2006, 10:00:43 PM A self governing autonomous collective eh? I always tell everyone to help themselves to my meagre store of site stuff. If they want it they'll nick it anyway :D Same as you, all I ask is credit for it.
Thanks Chris. I've decided to make a determined effort to learn how to run this show & relieve Yodie of the burden of doing it for me -I'm sure he's heartily fed up of me constantly asking him to post stuff. So, yes I'll borrow the Morris & Indian bits if you don't mind, just as soon as I figure out how! ;D Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 20, 2006, 11:21:32 PM Steve's emailed me a progress report on the van. He reads this lot but never posts, which is a shame cos he writes well. He says:
Take one perfectly good truck rear, Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 20, 2006, 11:23:48 PM carefully measure,

Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: Manky Monkey on June 20, 2006, 11:26:52 PM et voila, worlds biggest tailgate
I am now looking for a hydraulic ram and pump, 12 or 24 volt ( no 48v need apply ) to actuate the ramp system, tipper gear from Transit or Sherpa possibly, check your pockets and behind the sofa, there's one out there somewhere, also looking for gas boiler/instant water heater from a caravan or boat, about twenty pairs of hands to prep the outside for paint, another five or six hours in each day and a modest lotto win Steve ps, I'd accept a big win if thats all I can get Title: Re: Steve's race transporter. Post by: wizzkitt on June 22, 2006, 11:09:21 PM Now that's a bit more Thunderbirds... ;D
