Title: Steve's Trike
Post by: cunningplan on August 06, 2010, 07:21:47 PM
Known Steve for years, but not seen him for ages, he phoned up the other day and booked his new trike for a MOT test.
Pulled up this afternoon on one of them frames on the back of a car at the same time as a police car, he thought, we thought they were after him, but luckly it was about a car across the road blocking someones drive.
Anyway, heres a few photos to be going on with. I know Steve keeps a eye on this forum, so hopefully he will come on and tell you a bit more about it.

I was a little busy and it went on the rollers so did have to do a road test. Passed with flying colours, the only thing I did not really like (And Steve) there was no feel to the rear brake. Its got quite a long lever to the cylinder, I have suggested to Steve to drill another hole nearer the pivot to give it a bit more travel.
It looked odd without a tank, but I quite liked it.

"Tiller bars".
I prefer a bit more rake meself, but as you say, everyone's tastes are different, which is what makes customising so interesting isn't it.  :)
More upright forks will make the steering quicker, more responsive, but on a trike will suffer more from bump steer & juddering on decelleration. Bump steer occurs when the back wheels hit a bump or rut & make the front end skitter. The wider & heavier the back end, the more pronounced it becomes. A lot of trikes will "shake their heads" when you slow down from speed. How much & at what speed varies from trike to trike, but I find about 45 degrees of rake on the forks & wide flat bars to give you more leverage almost cure it.
