the car in question is a s reg hyundai lantra si, i like its curves
the next step for me is to fabricate a chassis for under the body  to attach to the swing arm and shock mounts
is it ok to weld brackets to the frame of the bike or will this incur a msva??

build a new frame. way cooler, much stronger

the thing is chewie i havent got the money to make a new frame at the moment and not realy sure what i would do different if i made a new frame as im using the original gs850, will give this a go and if it doesnt work out then willl consider doing a new frame its going to be a project for a while so can have a good think

with a bike trike you can add to the frame but you arent supposed to take anything off it and it has to be able to be turned back into a bike as far as i know.

My GT550 qualifies cos the only part that's modified by welding is the swingarm - which could be replaced, and the rack is bolted on too.

i had heard somewhere that you could add so thats good  hopefully collecting the backend tommorrow morning wahey then i can plan the chassis

You can and should strengthen the bike frame around the area of the swingarm connection.

As I've said before the frame is over 20 years old and made of cheap welded tube with about 2mm wall thickness and supplied to the manufacturer by the lowest bidder  ;)

You must be able to return the trike to a bike without altering anything that involves using more than spanners etc to avoid the SVA and must not remove or alter any part of the main frame cradle.

Take plenty of photo's of the bike and it being stripped down and all the work you do as you will have to expalin to someone at the DVLA who most likely has little or no idea  what the original bike looked like (in any great detail) how you would return it to being a bike.

This will no doubt be more difficult when it has the back end of a Hyundia stuck on it!  ;D

then i will do, i know what you mean  they are mass produced so guess they were cheap to build but im not worried itl be fine ::) i was going to make a chassis for under the car body and have  it welded to the swing arm  then bolted to the shock mounts and also bolted to the front and the side of the frame, so it will be secured to the bike frame in 8 places and can still be turned back into a bike i will be taking photos all the way to show what i have done, its hard to explain what exactly i mean but when its done it will be rigid and easily removable, cant wait to get going

I guess it will be rough on the swingarm bearings so it might be an idea to renew then when building the trike.

Why weld to the swingarm,make it so as the section of car chassis will bolt in-place of the swingarm.

il have to have something there wont i?? not sure if i understand what you mean hunter?? do you mean make the chassis with a kind of swing arm on it to bolt where the swing arm would have been??

as hunter says, use two heavy duty rose joints to connect to the bike frame through the original swing arm mounting holes. The new swing arm will then be wider and will attach to the car section a lot easier

oh i see. didnt mean to be dim  i understand what your saying  now hat would be good to do that as they have bearings in dont they??? i would just have to get a longer swing arm bot made wouldnt i, and id have no problems with routing the shaft with doing this

if you make the new swing arm to fit outside of the frame you can bolt through the rose joints on each side of the frame rather than all the way across like the original swing arm

that would be alot better as i would not have any problem with routing the shaft

taken me ages to grasp the basics of these computer thingeys adding photobucket into the mix would be like asking me to ride a unicycle pmsl.
