Title: 17" front wheel
Post by: hunter on July 23, 2010, 02:21:09 PM
i am thinking of using a 17" front wheel and tyre in the front of my trike build,
The tyre being a 120-60 profile.
what are peoples views or experiences with this size of wheel and tyre,

I take it no one here has used this size of front wheel then.

 :)
I'm not sure what Flap used on the front of his trike, (with the main site still offline, I can't go & check). I think that was a 17" Kwacka one. Handled as well as any trike with 50 degrees of rake can! Purely personally, I think it makes the front end look a little squat & dumpy, but whenever people mention the various Manky style trikes, it's the one everyone likes most, so I'm happy to concede it looks O.K

I have used a 17" front wheel with no probs. on my Honda based trike, and with standard rake and trail, found it an improvement in changing direction over the 19" I used previously.  Morrag

hi hunter what frame are you using if standard bike frame then by putting 17" wheel on will alter the steering trail. if your building your own frame say with 45/50 degree head stock and its just looks your after then i would go with what you fill is right

Andy i have looked at the pics of the Flapster in the BSH writeup,
it looks like 18" to me but i could be wrong.

morrag i am using a 45deg rake.

terry t  i am building (well adjusting ) a rigid trike frame to suit my purpose,
that will have 45 deg of rake.

thanks all for your input.
