Manky Monkey Motors

For those of you who didn't see my post on Manky's XS 650 SE Thread, Seeing his project spurred a glimmer of a thought in my head, I then spoke to Doc about it and he's up for it. Basically as the title says I have decided to try to Bobber my 81 GS250T, It has a couple of issues that prevent it from running correctly but I'm sure that it can be fixed if I put my mind to it. Below I have posted a picture it's frame, comments and suggestions please on how I might go about Bobbing it.

Extend the swingarm and put solid struts in instead of shocks?

First things gotta be to hardtail it, has'nt it!

It will be a hard tail, Back end totally re engineered, Was looking at the ebay shop that Manky got his Axle plates from and they sell a universal kit for hardtailing bikes, Was looking at it with intent to buy but before I do I need to know that I can addapt it to fit.

looks like it would go on, but why not but the axleplates from them and get some tube from somewhere else. Probably be much cheaper. And if you need to bend anything im sure someone on here could help, we have a basic bender if you are anywhere near here and always happy to help.
 

Thanks for the offer matey, I expect that buying the tube would be cheaper, I will take a look in to it, after finding the pic of the frame and seeing how it is constructed I'm not sure that the KIT option would be such a good idea. We have a big pipe bender at work so I'd attempt to use that. Would have to come up with a slightly different shape for the top bars in order to join them to the existing frame. Any ideas where I can get tube from?

for what its worth.... here`s my tuppence.....
here`s your frame

cut the seat rails and lower bottom rails.....

bin them, so your left with this......

position your axle plates....

add your lower rails

then the top ones

with a wheel.
Dont forget of course, when you come to make new rails, you`ll need the front end in and supports under the cradle to keep it level and still, and assemble the axle plates and wheel onto a piece of threaded bar supported at each end.

Just found this on eBay. Could gather some ideas from it, it's not a hardtail though.

just a basic hardtail n stretch, not even looked at lowering the cradle or altering the rake yet  ;D
