Title: my axle mount
Post by: tbone on April 23, 2006, 06:22:43 PM
we covered this in shiney`s post but didnt want to steal his thunder so am showing it here instead.
The mounting is 3" x 1" box section, a 2" circle is cut to take the axle then the top and bottom are notched for the fraim rails. The front is `locked off` with a strip of steel plate welded down the box and after welding in the rails the lips are bent over and welded again (belt n braces again lol )
The only mod i can think of would be to notch the fraim rails deeper and that would allow the lips tp meet in the middle and hence just need a single weld to cap it off.

its a permant fix, that aint goin anywere wether it wants to or not lol.
i no for practical reasons that yours has to be removable, but generally i`ve neva seen the point. Reliant axles are pretty much bullet proof, thats y we use them, so maintenance isnt an issue.

We make ours removable so the frames can be powdercoated. This is the set up on Nige's frame, built about 4 1/2 years ago. Done thousands of miles all around the South of England with no problems. Sorry, mustn't keep jumping in -I'll let Nigel tell you about anything you need to know on this one!

;D Somebody gave me the U bolts. No idea what they were intended for but they're 16mm diameter I think.

Entirely possible. I'd planned to re-use the original Reliant leaf spring U bolts -2 on each side, but these seemed the better option.
