Title: Digital speedo Post by: Clive on January 13, 2010, 07:54:06 PM Can anyone explain, in simple terms, how one of the after-market ones of these work? And if they're any good?
Clive Title: Re: Digital speedo Post by: TwistedPatience on January 13, 2010, 08:09:16 PM There's a magnet on the front wheel and a pick up on the forks which sends a pulse to the speedo which inturn calculates the speed, you have to programme the circumference of the front wheel in it's quite simple.
I recommend the Sigma ones maybe a bit dearer but will last longer than the cheap bicycle ones. I have used a Sigma from Hein Gerike for the last 2 years only had one speeding fine so must work ok Title: Re: Digital speedo Post by: Clive on January 13, 2010, 09:03:52 PM Cheers buddy,
How does the magnet attach to the wheel, and surely if you put the circumference of the wheel in, it'll not matter how big the wheel is, but where along the radius of the 'circle' the magnet is fitted? Or am I being a biff here? Clive Title: Re: Digital speedo Post by: TwistedPatience on January 16, 2010, 12:37:50 PM I used Araldite resin an put it on the rim but it don't matter where you put it it's just a counter provided you programme the unit with your wheels circumference accurately all will be well.
A bit of inventing to mount the sensor but it's nothing you cant handle. Title: Re: Digital speedo Post by: Manky Monkey on January 16, 2010, 12:44:09 PM You can buy "cordless" ones too, though their range is only a couple of feet -I tried one on a chop & the distance from front wheel to yoke mounted speedo was too far!

Also the coils can interfere with the signal. Title: Re: Digital speedo Post by: Manky Monkey on January 18, 2010, 06:13:43 PM Does SVA require the speedo to be illuminated?
