Title: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on December 24, 2009, 02:36:30 AM ........ because you are behind your self imposed schedule and stuff to be done is stacking up, take a break, step back, slip another little fun project into the mix. It won't help but it's a bit like scratching an itch, you've just got to do it.

Post by: brock on December 24, 2009, 02:46:21 AM Hope to fire it up over the holiday, they're meant to have the ability to waken the dead at high throttle settings, we'll see. An alternative scenario is that nothing happens, further research suggests that they are really quite sensitive to changes in the volume of the tube sections and I have just worked from a photograph and then used what I had laying around, still, the potential injury forcast is possible to real with severe threatened later, should be fun, I'll let you know
Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on December 24, 2009, 02:52:10 AM The igniter box took a bit of thinking about, involving several relays operating each other, I thought that ALL relays followed a common numbering system, not so, I got it in the end although the plug gap is now opened up so far that it seems to prefer arcing to the side, I suspect that it will still do the job, more as it happens

Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on December 31, 2009, 10:45:12 PM I had an unexpected break in the form of a few days away in Old London Towne courtesy of Mrs B so nothing has been done to anything for a week, however, the house is full of outlaws tomorrow and being an unsociable git I'll melt away like a wraith, and indeed wraith to the thed and give it a try, maybe photos tomorrow, or hospital !
Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: Manky Monkey on December 31, 2009, 10:48:11 PM I'll watch for the glow in the sky over Marlborough then.
Happy New Year big bro. ;) Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on January 02, 2010, 06:30:20 PM Got bored taking the race car apart to alter the transmission ( again) tonight so had a little play with it. As most have guessed, it is actually a high speed hair dryer, not having a handy volunteer we just set it up on the ground to test it.
Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on January 02, 2010, 06:35:23 PM Ignition on, air on, gas on, big bang and flash of flame, then nothing. Back the gas pressure off a bit and try again, ooooh, it runs, after a fashion.
Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on January 02, 2010, 06:42:56 PM It will run with the ignition turned off, which is good, but not without the forced air feed which isn't. More research needed, from the extent of the heat pattern on the body it looks like I may have made the combustion chamber too long, it was all a bit of a guess at the sizes and some development was bound to be needed, but it's a start. A few shots with the flash turned off, the camera is very susceptible to shake in low light as you may be able to discern ( ! ) but they do show the heat patterns on the body
Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: Manky Monkey on January 02, 2010, 06:54:22 PM That's one serious hair dryer!
So it's a jet engine then. A "pulse jet" -what exactly does that mean? And what does one do with one's jet, now you've made it? How much thrust would that generate, (I'm sure you've already worked it out :) ). Enough to power ...? a bike? A go cart? A double decker bus? How would you mount it in a vehicle without melting everything around it? Can you regulate the power, or is it literally point & fire? Have you managed to burn down the workshop with it yet? I'm so glad insanity doesn't run in our family, big brother! :P Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: Manky Monkey on January 03, 2010, 07:58:21 PM It's a jet engine! Pay attention at the back!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6qSCRcaxzM very susceptible to gas pressure changes, I have some ideas about that and will try to find the time in the week to have a play. On the subject of the big potato guns, Osma/Wavin plastic soil pipe is too brittle to withstand large charges, you need the expensive stuff if you don't want to be peppered with lots of nasty little stinging bits of plastic ::) Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: cunningplan on January 07, 2010, 08:08:20 AM All that time and effort and you could have gone to B & Q and got a weed burner ;D
Come on Brock, get some work done (Thats if you can get to the shed) Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on January 09, 2010, 07:54:52 PM modified the gas inlet today, junked my lovely stainless steel fabricated injector and ran the open feed pipe straight into the inlet tube, may try to run it again tomorrow, depends if I can thaw the tool box locker on the truck to get at the stuff I need. It may not currently run very well but it is a pretty colour
Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: Manky Monkey on January 09, 2010, 08:33:56 PM Use the jet to thaw out the van?
Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on January 09, 2010, 08:42:05 PM Run the jet to thaw the locker I need to get into to get the stuff I need to run the jet ? I'll have to think about that ! Still fairly chilly out

Post by: brock on January 18, 2010, 07:24:49 PM Brilliant site, clever man. Possibly the first site I ever saved after I found what a "favorites list" was. I hadn't looked at his jets but do keep going back to look at his Nitros systems, hmmm, if only I had a spare motor, hang on, I bought one yesterday ! !, Oh dear ......

Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: brock on February 06, 2010, 09:21:28 PM ;) all is well.
had another go with the jet, still won't self sustain without air feed, I might try cutting the inlet off and make an adjustable sliding sleeve to go over the stub and see if the length affects it Title: Re: When you absolutely, definitely, must get something finished..... Post by: TwistedPatience on February 07, 2010, 08:37:00 AM ;D kool Brock.
