Title: Reliant with Certificate of destruction. Post by: klogan45 on December 13, 2009, 07:14:51 PM Hello peeps, I've been offered all the running gear and engine from a reliant with a certificate of destruction on it. The bloke (who works at a local breakers) says that if I grind off the engine number it can be re-stamped and then re-registered. I'm thinking that this is not quite true, but I'm more than happy to be told that I'm wrong on this one. I could just buy all the bits except the engine for a bit less dosh, like tha prop axle gear box and all the ancilliary bits and bobs etc....no numbers there eh!
The big question is this... Is the bloke telling the truth or would I find meself in court for something or other? I'd appreciate your opinions on this one especially. Thanks Regards K Title: Re: Reliant with Certificate of destruction. Post by: tbone on December 13, 2009, 08:40:10 PM What are you thinking of re registering? the reliant? If you just plan on using the running gear and engine/box, then buy it, no need to grind anything off. Its the vehicle that has the certificate on it so thats what needs destroying, no reason why it cant be stripped for useable parts. Title: Re: Reliant with Certificate of destruction. I'm going to fit it in the 'wing, not just yet though, but a good price so it can 'sit a while'. I'll reinforce the bottom rails on the wing, and do any other modifications needed, then I will MSVA it. I believe its a couple of hundred quid, but no MOT for three years, It would be good to have things checked over properly as well.
Thanks again Guys Regards K Title: Re: Reliant with Certificate of destruction. Post by: toad on December 13, 2009, 09:00:33 PM the certificate of destruction applies to the vehicle not the parts taken from it. there,s no need to remove the engine no,s as the vehicle no longer exists any engine no,s used are traced to a scrapped vehicle as long as you have a reciept its not a problem. we used to sell parts from the old section 165 vehicles so dont panic fella ;)
