Title: Front Tyre
Post by: Hagar on December 04, 2009, 04:38:15 PM
Its time to change the front tyre on the virago trike , its only just this side of legal and now the buggers got a puncture ... she's got a standard bike tyre on at the moment , she does'nt shake her head much  .. a little bit at about 20'ish on the way up ...  would a tyre with a 'flatter' profile  be better .. and has anyone got any tyre recommendations  .......

cheers  ..  Hagar  ..   ;D

Last time I put a front tyre on Gertie I just got something round and black (and cheap) - certainly didn't notice the handling being any worse.

ay up i put a  Avon Sidecar Triple Duty AM7 3.50-19 57L but i think they are only 19 inch ,  ths realy helped, also as you turn the front wheel is dose not tend to seem to drop off the centre of the tyre i think this is called the ackerman effect hope this helps  ::)

Evening , thanks for the replies ....   not had time to check the tyre today but the manual says the size is   100/90 19 57H  .... would the  "  Avon Sidecar Triple Duty AM7 3.50-19 57L "    fit the rim ?
Also  what do the numbers and letters mean on the tyres ?  I take it that the 19 is the size  but the  100/90   and 3.50 ,  and the  57H and the 57L   ?    ...

cheers  ..  Hagar

Thanks young master Brock ......  so the 57L on the sidecar tyre is  57 = a loading of 230kgs  at L  the speed rating of 75mph ....

( The speed rating is the maximum speed that the tyre can withstand for a 10 minute endurance test without it destroying itself and coming to pieces. ( taken from your link )   .. ).

Does this mean with a lighter loading the max speed for the tyre goes up before shredding ?  ( although with my fat arse   ample frame  I'm not sure it'll be much under that  .. that and the fact I cant get her to run on the front pot over about 3500rpm and 75mph is out of reach atm    :-[ )   as one day I might want to use her for more than work and back  .....

cheers  ..  Hagar  ..   ;D

tricky 'aint it. I don't know is the simple answer, I am looking for info on maximum momentry speed and loading for another little project and not finding much of any use, I'm sure it's out there and will persevere
