I second that!  Even for anyone who has no particular interest in either Hot Rods or Drag Racing, a thoroughly excellent weekend!

Any idea which Monkeys will be there and whether the Blkack Pig will run this year?

Black Pig Too, the all new, all singing, all dancing nostalgia slingshot drag car will indeed be there Bobbi, crewed by Brock & Black Pig, (Mrs Brock).
Tony, ("CunningPlan"), is a scrutineer & marshal at Shakespeare County Raceway, so will be there in a dayglo bib, looking all official.
I'll definitely be there on the Sunday. Taz too if she's not working that weekend. Probably Lunatic.
You coming along this year?

You'd rather be with your new born child than at the drag races?
Tisk, tisk.  :P
Weather permitting, I'll be there Tony, with either Taz or Loony -or both. See you Sunday.

Well Taz & I had another good day out at the races on Sunday.
I don't really follow the action on the track -got no idea who's where in the rankings, I just love the atmosphere & the cars & the noise.
We arrived in Taz's boss's LandRover Discovery, borrowed for the weekend after she had to chauffeur him to London, & were soon pressed into service to tow Steve & Lesley's Black Pig Too to the start line. Hopefully the boss doesn't read this so will never know we took his car drag racing! I believe it was the Pig's last run of the season, but I'm sure Mr & Mrs Brock will be posting a full report here soon  :)

Lots of familiar faces there & quite a few well known cars from way back. There seems to be a trend at the moment for ressurecting 70s show & race cars -the dream cars of my teenage years. No bad thing I think.
Ken Wilding's "Roarin' Rat"s always a crowd pleaser.

You can't convey in a photo the ground shaking, ear bashing power of these guys as they launch from the line.

Plenty of Pops there, so I spent a lot of time comparing notes for our build.
Not seen this one before, but I liked it. Heavily channelled body keeps it's full roof height & looks to be running full width Sherpa van axles at both ends. Rover power with the front beam axle pushed forward like ours & also the front inner wings cut down to just the curved sections above the wheels, as we intend to do. Left hand drive too.

Another Pop pick-up. There's been build threads on several other forums for this. It was cruising the pits on Sunday afternoon, but left on a trailer, so presumably not road registered yet.

Also Pop based & using the same Morris Minor cab back panel we have, but with a home built nose. This one's had several style changes recently & was hauling a coffin in the pick-up bed last time I saw it.

Pops are very common at the shows we attend & are the classic Brit rod as far as I'm concerned. Everyone seems to start out with a Pop as their first build. It was a veritable Pop festival at Shakey with everything from near-standard daily drivers to pick-ups to gassers.

Some oddities too. This tub was running vintage steel truck wheels & a Rolls Royce motor.

Crazy VW safari bus based creation had a very 60s vibe about it. Didn't see it run but would love to see it on the strip.

New Zealander owned '69 Dodge Charger like Taz's, swapping the race slicks for street tyres & re-fitting the silencers before heading home.

Classic 70s fad T bucket has V8 Rover engine, same as my Pop. A perfect example of the style, right down to the "T" rear window.

My favourites are always the traditional rods. Plenty in attendance & I was pleased to see our build quality's as good as, or better, than everyone else's. Next year we'll be there in ours!

Another of those iconic cars from my youth. I remember drooling over Henry Hirise at the big indoor custom shows of the late 70s.
Built in the same workshops as Roarin' Rat. The only car ever to feature on the covers of both Custom Car & Street Machine magazines. Now running an all new tube chassis but otherwise just as I remember it. Great to see him back from the dead & on the tarmac where he belongs. Old Fords never die, they just get faster.  :)

Plenty more pics but I can't post the gallery until we've sorted out the main website.
If you've never been drag racing, I'd thoroughly recommend the Hotrod Drags or the Nostalgia Nationals at Shakespeare County Raceway.
Last pic goes to our very own team Black Pig.  :)

A good time was had by all, overly good by some  ::), took the car and a box of bits , put it all together during Friday, too nice a day to do anything Saturday, that and the queue went past our pit and back round behind us, had a little go Sunday, trouble holding it on the line and a fair launch showed the cam timing was closer to optimal, small oversight in the fueling department saw a slowing pass and a pin hole in the newly altered sump that only showed itself when hot decided us in favour of sitting out the rest of it. We have some plans for the Winter, but I've had experience of plans before, we'll see how it goes.
Nice shot of the truck, it's now for sale, cheaper than you might think , fresh MOT and service, get in touch if you want details.
