Title: Re: hello Post by: afghanman on November 19, 2009, 08:32:47 PM Hello from me too. I am a bit of a newbe as well.
Title: Re: hello Post by: uncledum1 on November 19, 2009, 08:45:07 PM Thanks for the replies folks. Trying to work out if its possible to use a ford transit van engine, prop and axle for a trike.
A mate said it should work, but hes using a robin setup for his trike. Title: Re: hello Post by: afghanman on November 19, 2009, 08:51:26 PM Never made a trike but I suppose the almost any engine will do? but as I understand it there are width restrictions with trikes. So, how easy will it be to shorten the axle?
Title: Re: hello Post by: tbone on November 19, 2009, 08:56:24 PM Twin axle transit? I`ve considered that one, think it would look cool 8)
Title: Re: hello Post by: Manky Monkey on November 19, 2009, 09:21:28 PM A twin wheel axle shortened right down to just the width of the rider would look kinda funky. That'd be 5 wheels though wouldn't it. Would it still qualify as a trike?
Check out ValleysBoy's trike thread. He's putting together a van engined trike too. Title: Re: hello Post by: uncledum1 on November 19, 2009, 09:42:34 PM ive only got a single axle transit to strip.
shame that sounded good with a twin axle. Title: Re: hello Post by: uncledum1 on November 19, 2009, 09:53:49 PM how do i find Valleyboys thread on his transt trike?
Title: Re: hello Post by: Manky Monkey on November 19, 2009, 09:59:16 PM It's in the General Discussion bit for some reason.
http://www.mankymonkeymotors.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=2977.0 Gareth's is a Morris engine. Title: Re: hello Post by: brock on November 19, 2009, 10:56:01 PM wasn't there an article in BSH some time ago about a Transit trike ?, engine, box and axle but no frame, seat bolted on the bellhousing and forks onto a heavily reinforced rocker box, tank was an air reciever tank over the diff, possibly somewhere in Portugal, or did I just make that up ?
Title: Re: hello Post by: voodoo on November 19, 2009, 11:01:41 PM Yep there was a V8 trike as you described it Brock...it was at the Faro rally in 2003.....I fell in love with the thing and took loads of pic's..there were also a few pic's of it in BSH after the show.....Voodoo....
Title: Re: hello Post by: uncledum1 on November 19, 2009, 11:07:26 PM thanks for the link to VBs thread. alot on there, bloody big trike. Its looking great.

Title: Re: hello Post by: ByzMax on November 20, 2009, 12:04:35 AM Welcome.
The twin wheel thing is ok I think because as long as the are not more than about 12" apart or summit like that they are counteda s one wheel. Check with the VOSA sva tech guy befpre starting though for exact details. I'll see if I have his phone number ;) Title: Re: hello Post by: lunatic on November 20, 2009, 05:43:32 PM Wotcha Unk! ;D
Title: Re: hello Post by: panthershaun on November 20, 2009, 07:09:17 PM eh up mate, I think the twin wheel is OK if the wheel centres are no more than 18 inches apart, also they are on the one axle so that helps.
Go for it ;D ;D its nice to something a little different being done ;D 8) Title: Re: hello Post by: uncledum1 on November 20, 2009, 09:11:14 PM thanks for all the replys, really getting into this. Should be quiet over christmas from work so might buy a heater and some tube and get a crack on with my transit trike idea. I dont have a twin axle but i will get some pics done as i get started.
Title: Re: hello Post by: Manky Monkey on November 20, 2009, 11:09:36 PM Yup, start a fresh thread in the Trike Tech bit for your build, then we can all follow your progress & chip in with
