Title: ballast resistor Post by: ROD on October 28, 2009, 05:25:24 PM Did any of the Reliants have a ballast resistor? . All the ones Ive seen on other makes are piggy backed on to the coil, but this doesnt have one . I didnt see one in the original car engine bay if it was mounted remotely, but could've missed it.

Title: Re: ballast resistor Post by: ROD on October 28, 2009, 05:30:07 PM hmmm ,might've missed it! I thought they only came in to play AFTER the engine was started? So maybe the lack of it isnt preventing the engine at least firing.
Title: Re: ballast resistor Post by: Manky Monkey on October 28, 2009, 05:37:32 PM I've never fitted one on any of my trikes, though Flap had problems with his engine melting the plastic pivot of the points. Ran fine until the points stopped operating. A resistor fixed it.
Title: Re: ballast resistor Post by: toad on October 28, 2009, 08:43:53 PM right then theres 2 types of resistor 1 keeps a constant 12v feed to the coil whilst cranking 2nd reduces voltage to keep the coil at say a steady 9-11.5v but as a general guide. a coil from an 850 mini will run any reliant without points probs so use a mini coil and delete the ballast resistor! ;D
