Title: how to lengthen a door
Post by: renegade53 on October 15, 2009, 07:04:25 PM
some customs etc have been made into a 2 door from a 4 door. how do they lenghten the doors and strenghten them. i would imagine that you couldn't make 'em too long as there would be a lot of strain on the hinges.

possibly by getting the 2 doors and hinges from a 2 door version of the car???

but what if there isn't a 2 door version. i've got an idea on how it might be done. would the shin be joined in the middle or one end. the frame would be joined in a different place to the skin.

I think there are some pictures of an MG in Custom Car this month that has been "two doored". the procedure seems to be, move the B post back, cut the front door in half, hang the front bit and latch the rear, take the bit you cut out of the rear when you moved the B post and nail it in the gap. I suspect it may reveal itself as a slightly more involved process just after you make the first irreversible cuts

i was more interested in the green corsair so never read about the mg. there's a mk1 zody i think that i've seen at the ace before. it looked neat so was curious how it was done. oh and it should of read skin not shin in the other post :)
