Title: Carb gaskets Post by: ROD on October 10, 2009, 04:39:42 PM Hi All
Im fitting my carb ,and the diagrams in the manual arent all that explicit. The carb to short inlet manifold gasket is a thick type(about 6mm)cos I have that one, but I dont know what type the short inlet to main manifold gasket is.(lost it) Anyone? Thanx Rod Title: Re: Carb gaskets Post by: Manky Monkey on October 10, 2009, 06:07:27 PM Paper Rod, or normal composite gasket material anyway.
The thicker one is actually a heat insulator, but not all Reliants had them. A black plastic block. It varies from about 1/4 inch thick, like yours, up to nearly half an inch for no apparent reason. None of my trikes have had them, with no running problems at all, probably because the engine's stuck out in the airflow so the carb doesn't get a chance to overheat, (heat from the exhaust manifold vapourises the fuel, causing the motor to run lean). I've just taken the insulator block off Taz's carb manifold to give me more carb/tank clearance. Remember towing my 1500 pre xflow,28/36 weber carbed 100e to start it ,but it wouldnt go until I got a thick gasket under the carb!
