Post by: tbone on August 17, 2009, 04:47:57 PM
Sunday 30th and monday 31st august.
Onslow Park, Shrewsbury
http://www.shrewsburysteamrally.co.uk/theshow.htm

The Main Arena
The main arena is the venue for displays of attractive showmen's engines, cavalcades of well-loved traction engines, enormous steam rollers, and the ever-popular heavy horses.

This year is no exception for the arena providing displays of all of the above in a full Arena Programme on both days which includes a highly popular display of birds of prey (static and flying), displays of vintage tractors on the move, a convoy of historic commercial vehicles, working horses on parade, a line up of the best Albion lorries (this year celebrating their 110th anniversary), vintage cycles and perambulators (with the majority of entrants in period costume), pre-and post World War II cars, veteran cars, classic motorcycles and steam cars.

The Main Showground
The showground will play host to over 1,000 exhibits and an impressive variety of working displays. Preserved, private and commercial vehicles have a significant presence, reflecting the growing interest in restoration. There's an olde time fair, oil engines, miniature steam engines, cars, motorcycles, fairground organs, birds of prey (arena and static display), craft marquee and of course a bar and plenty of refreshments! And if you've still got time to spare there's 6 acres of trade stands to peruse at your hearts content!

The Working Field
The Working Field at this year’s rally will feature pre-1930’s and prairie veteran tractors.

Prairie tractors promised include the Aultman & Taylor 30-60 of Gijs Koolen from Holland; the ex Lawrence Woolf Hart-Parr 30-60, Old Reliable from George Mueller of Germany; a 1914 Case 20-40 from M Patrick;  1917 Holt 75 from the Harris family, Dorset; Peter Thomas’s Cat 60 (Atlas powered); Robert Crawford’s Marshall Colonial (harvest permitting); four different models of Rumley Oil Pull; several Case Cross motors; two Case 10-20’s (three wheelers); 1916 Mogul 12-25 from John Bownes; two Allis Chalmers 20-35’s; International 22-36; various Hart Parrs and Twin Cities, plus a selection of Classic prairie tractors, including an 1950’s Wagner TR9 articulated; an International 6588 (Snoopy); a Ford FW60; a Ford 8600.

There will be 240 tractors on view on the show ground, including some of the earliest and rarest examples in the world, plus some exciting Tractor Pulling.

Organiser, Brian Smith, said “We are very lucky to have the support of some of the country’s leading collectors, as well as some from Europe. The Working Field is a superb way to see ‘how farming was done in Grandfather’s Day’. It demonstrates the wonderful original farming skills and techniques, including ploughing and threshing.

There will be a “Grand Parade of Power” at 4pm each day, and regular FREE trailer rides from the main Rally Field to the Working Field. On the main Rally Field there will be a static display of approximately 85 vintage tractors.
