Title: Speed cameras Post by: Speedmaster on February 20, 2006, 11:44:09 PM Tonight was the Wolds Bikers monthly meet and we had a cop come down with various bits of speed camera equipment to give us a talk. I know its an old, old subject but I learned a few things tonight that I reckon are worth passing on. You might know already but I'm gonna tell ya anyway ;D
Apparently those cameras that clock you over a set distance and do you for average speed are lane specific. So change lanes after the first one and the second one doesnt see you. The cameras that spy out of the rear window of a parked van are video cams and they can get you for other offences as well as speeding. Static tripod laser cams can target you from an infinite distance but the cops can only do you within a maximum distance of 1000 yards, this may be reduced in some counties. In Lincolnshire its 300 yards. Course you have to accept that the guy was telling us the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth ;) Title: Re: Speed cameras Post by: Manky Monkey on February 21, 2006, 11:32:59 AM Hiya. I regularly trundle up & down the M3 to visit Rainbow in Southampton & often see 3 cameras set up on tripods on bridges over the road, one pointing along each lane. I tend to travel at 70 - 80 most of the time but at least half the traffic on the road passes me. They must make a fortune with those cameras.
Title: Re: Speed cameras Post by: Speedmaster on February 21, 2006, 10:44:12 PM Yeah, but just think how much our pole tax, I mean community charge would be without them ???. There again I think I'd rather pay an extra quid on that and get shot of the cameras. They've got loads of the video cams in vans here in Lincs, damn things pop up all over the place.
Title: Re: Speed cameras Post by: Manky Monkey on February 22, 2006, 08:45:37 AM A patrol car cruised past me when I was doing 90 or so on the M3 at around midnight at the weekend. I took the hint & eased back a little & they promptly pulled over the van in front of me instead. Guess they're not all bad.

Just don't have any of your vehicles registered to you. Title: Re: Speed cameras Post by: Manky Monkey on February 22, 2006, 01:19:02 PM I'm consorting with a bunch of criminals! :o

Title: Re: Speed cameras Post by: Manky Monkey on February 22, 2006, 06:58:34 PM Yeah. They just cruised past & looked at me. When the blue lights went on I was certain they were for me but they pulled over a slow moving van in front of me instead. Maybe they had a better reason to stop them than me. Took it easy the rest of the way home though. Thank you Mister Plod!
