Title: Need help getting screwed
Post by: InsolentMinx on May 11, 2009, 08:37:14 AM
 ;D

I'm in dire need of some socket head cap screws to put back together my motorbike's air filter cover.

The unit came from the US, so they're US size screws, but i'm sure I must be able to get them from somewhere over here!  ???

I was kinda hoping you lot would be able to help as i figure you must source a lot of hardware for your projects so would know the best places to look.

The US size of the screw is:
6-32 x 3/8"

finding an online conversion chart, i think that equates to a UK:
M3.5 x 9.5mm

I can't seem to find them anywhere online though. there seems to be an abundance of M4 screws, but can't find any M3.5...

any chance you can be of assistance?

ta.

(i attach a crappy blurry pic so you can see roughly what it should look like...)

no no no no no........the yanks are a funny lot be very careful here or you will bugger the threads up.
Your screw is 6 gauge with 32 threads per inch and 3/8" long. This makes it UNC or unified course thread.
Do not attempt to use a metric one!

Cant find a uk supplier, so it`ll have to be the us....http://www.boltdepot.com/dimension.aspx?cc=13&cs=71&cm=6

Oh, i only need 3. (there was 4, but one that snapped off left the rest of it still in the hole and i can't get it out they're so small)

Zinc would be prefered though. as it's to gonne be surrounded by chrome.

I have a friend in the US who i'm exchanging emails with this second actually about him sending me some.

thank you kindly though

:)

My mate in the US may have got me some. He said he was gonna pop to Home Depot in his lunch break yesterday.
will have to wait til morning their time to find out...

Or NAMRICK?

they only have metric socket head cap screws (that i can see)
