   Whats the requirement for the handbrake/emergency brake ,or whatever the msva call it? Did I read someone on here used a minimoto cable operated disc brake on the prop?
 Does it actually have to stop the vehicle if the brakes fail ,or just lock the brakes on parking?

The MSVA manual says trikes "should have a secondary braking system, which may be the parking brake". It must operate progressively & be able to be applied from the driving position while keeping one hand on the steering control, using a control that is operated independantly from the normal brakes. It must be held in the "on" position by purely mechanical means. Oh, & it must operate on all the wheels of one axle, (front or back).

I assume if you have seperate front and rear braking systems, then the "parking brake" would be just that, but if you had a linked system it would have to be some sort of emergency brake, i.e able to stop if brakes fail, although how would they test it? I doubt they'd tell you to go round the test centre flat out, and pull the handbrake on.

So with my intended all brakes on one pedal ,Id better either have the rear calipers connected to a handbrake ,or find a mechanical prop mounted disc brake powerful enuf to stop the beast!TBH I would feel safer with a good secondary brake!

Our VW Golf/Vauxhall Nova disc brake conversion then.

    Does the brake have to be dot approved ,or can it be from another source?

No mention of it in the manual Rod, only that they must be fit for the purpose, so aviation or agricultural parts would be fine, as long as they do the job.

Hmmm..........May have a try at making a caliper . Stripped the minimoto one down ,looks pretty straight forward........

landrovers have a transmission handbrake i.e on the propshaft at the rear of the g/box

there are after market kits to replace these with a disc brake which is considerably smaller than the standared drum one thats factory fitted

 i have seen these in use but at the mo cant remember who make them but i will try to find out

mine is on seperate front and  back systems,

plus q reg so different rules,

i just plumbed in a line lock valve,

 press back brake, lock off system,

passed mot no prob, i thangu  ;D

could i use an anchor then

Could you use a handlebar brake lever that locks with a clip ?,father in law has one on his Honda Lead scooter.
