Title: Measuring a headlamp.
Post by: Mr_G on April 26, 2009, 02:39:46 PM
Where do I measure to find out how big my headlight is, Stupid question probably but I don't know if i'm supposed to measure the diameter of the glass or the chrome surround.

Cheers folks.

The glass. Standard `old fashioned` round type lamps will generally be 7", the smaller versions are 5 3/4".
How about one of these?

So because I want to replace my old style glass with new style one I'm going to have to replace the whole headlight?

Cheers.

No, i probanly didnt explain very well. There are common sizes for the single round headlamps, 7 or 5 3/4".
I used the term old fashioned to describe them both. Maybe `tried n trusted headlamp design` would be more accurate  ;D

Ah I see, so if someone is selling a headlamp as 6 inches, they more than likely mean 5.75 inches. So If I buy a headlamp for a honda cb superdream advertised as 6 inches it should fit my GS with similar sized lamp nicely.

thanks tbone for your help.

Both are round, the replacement and the one I want to replace.

In that case i would imagine, as they are smallish bikes, that they are 5 3/4".
