when on a long run on my gpz 550 i often suffer from pins and needles or numb hans ,what could cause this problem

Ye Olde Barber Surgeon is who you need for leeches  .......  if he cant cure your numb bits at least you can get a "short back and sides" and a shave while your there   ........     ;D

I`m afraid i can`t diagnose your problem either, but i think i can give you a solution. Go on shorter runs.  ;D

get some gloves with a more padded palm?
or wrap some tennis racket grip tape around your grips?
don't hold them so tightly?

Bar end weights to reduce the vibration?

Foam grips to absorb the vibration?

Don't grip the bars so tight, maybe use throttle grips so you don't need to grasp the bars?

I use them on both bars.

Years ago you could buy a long coil spring that you slid inside your bars. It was supposed to reduce vibration. A bit like the ones plumbers use inside copper pipes when they bend them to stop them getting crushed.

Steering wheel perhaps?

If my hands went numb like that I would immediately pull into a layby for a nifty, I've heard that if your hand is numb it's like someone else ;D ;D ;D ;D
