Title: Hartley Wintney, Hants classic meet -today
Post by: Manky Monkey on January 01, 2009, 09:57:13 AM
Could've sworn I'd posted this, but can't find any mention of it.
For anyone in the Hampshire area who may be sitting at home at a loose end or wondering how to blow away the New Year's Day post celebration haze, there's a classic vehicle meet this morning at the Phoenix pub in Phoenix Green, Hartley Wintney, on the A30, between Basingstoke & Camberley, not far from junction 5 of the M3.
Starts at 10am & seems to peter out by early afternoon. So if you fancy going you'd better get your skates on. Chevy Rick's taking his truck & Janie & Dave may be there. We're just going to cook some bacon sarnies for breakfast & we'll be on our way there too. Maybe see you there?

Well we got back home a couple of hours ago & are just starting to go through our photos. Taz took over 600 & I took 500, so it might take a while.
Good to see a few local Monkeys there. Rick took his Chevy truck, plus we saw Jacko, Janie & Dave, plus numerous familiar faces. This is growing into a big event now. It's based around the Phoenix pub, presumably because there used to be a classic car workshop in the grounds & a club that met in the pub. Now it spreads out for half a mile in every direction from there with stunningly beautiful classic cars parked up on the verges & even along the chevrons down the middle of the road. Couldn't get over how many E type Jags there were there.
Favourites for me were the little 2 seater Bugatti specials & the huge supercharged Bentley tourer.
Bear with us & we'll have the piccies online later this evening.   ;)

Well, what a busy, busy morning it was earlier today.  Never expected so many people and vehicles out on New Years Day, but what a change it made, from sitting in front of the telly, eating toffees!

Look forward to seeing the pics.

Rick's top photography tip of the day -don't spend all day snapping away, then open the camera to find you forgot to put the memory card in.  ;)

A few snaps to be going on with. We'll post the full photo gallery tomorrow, with Rick's photos once he's rescued them from his camera.

A super rare Gordon Keeble, built in Basingstoke I believe. The only other one I've ever seen was in Basingstoke's Milestones Museum.

My favourite. I had the Airfix model of this when I was a kid. Absolutely stunning. A supercharged Bentley tourer. How much is this baby worth? Beautiful.

In 2007 this blower Bentley was brought to the Gooding & Company auction held in Pebble Beach, Ca. As expected, it was one of the highlights of the event. With so few Blower Bentleys in existence, it is rare to see them come to market. This is a very original car making it even more sought after. Had it been a factory racer, its value would be even higher. Nonetheless, it is still qualified entrant for many historic events and could even grace the Pebble Beach Concours lawn in their Preservation Category. The potential and rarity of this car was easily understood by bidders, as the value of this car continued to escalate throughout the auction. When the gavel fell for the third and final time, the lot had been sold for $4,510,000 including buyer's premium.

It's not the same car as the reg is different and the one we saw looks like it did have a number sticker on it as you can still ssee the outline. Wonderful car and I dread to think what the insurance would be for it.

That figures!
They only built 100 of them, but in 2004, 95 were still on the road.
