Hi Guys
I've nearly finished my trike rebuild which when purchased had a Reliant engine, axle and the original chassis's plate, on the Log book its registered as a tricycle.
During rebuild the Reliant engines been replaced with a motor cycle engine.
Will this need to go through the Msva test ?? ???

if its not the original reliant chassis simple answer is yes

When I bought the Trike it was allready registered and it does say Tricycle on the log book ?????? ??? ??? ???

all reliant 3 wheelers are classed as tricycles,you are building your own chassis so it is not as it left the factory,you will have to sva it ,nothing to be affraid of,just a longer mot basicaly.

Your saying its a rebuild and make no mention of the chassis, so i assume other than an enginge change, no major fabrication has been done? If this is the case and as you say its already registered as a trike then i`d say no to a mvsa, you are however legally obliged to inform the dvla of the engine change.  ;)

When I bought it it looked like this as you can see there isn't any origional frames from the Reliant it has a VIN plate with the chassis's number stamped on it that presumably was from the original vehicle

Right, i presume the logbook states that its a reliant 3 wheeled tricycle? and that it was converted from a reliant to a `trike` some time ago?
alot of conversions were done this way before the msva regs came into force, and indeed, some afterwards, before that loophole was closed.
If i were you, i`d not worry too much about getting an msva done, but it will always be classed as a reliant. I would however still inform the dvla of the engine change, usually when you increase cc they accept what you say and alter the logbook accordingly, (If you say you have reduced cc they will want to come and take a look for themselves,) and the colour difference.
The advantage of informing them about this is,you have covered yourself for the work you have done, as the rest of the trike is in the same condition as when you bought it. I.E. still a trike

Yes definatley an improvement. Phone the DVLA first and ask them first. Put it as a question but don't tell them you have already done it and see what they say then you will know what you have to do. I did that with a car I had. I changed the wheels ect and when I called the insurance to tell them they said I would not be insured. When Manky sent off the log book for the Pop they did not return it and he now has to SVA it. You should have no problems testing it if that's what you have to do.

Can you tell us what it says exactly on the log book?

I think from what you have said that it is still registered as a reliant and therefore you will need an SVA. Should pass without any major issues (Just going by looks)

Bear in mind that MOT testers are required to notify Vosa that a vehicle has been modified so you will probably be picked up then!
