Title: Bike engined Reliant
Post by: Manky Monkey on October 26, 2008, 02:38:02 PM
Saw this in the carpark at last weekend's Doncaster custom show, but forgot to show you.
Can anyone identify the engine? Hayabusa? Didn't get a look underneath but appeared to be standard running gear. Wonder how that handles the extra oomph? Gear change was the standard bike ratchet set up, coming up through the gearbox tunnel in the normal car shift position with a T handle, which must make for very short, clicktronic type gear changes.
Very tidily done. I'll try & contact the company & see if we can get a write-up.

The logo was on their other vehicle by the way -a little Suzuki Carry van. Wonder if that was equally nippy?

There's been some chat here about using the axles with bike or Reliant engines, but I don't think anyone's tried it yet -how about being the first?!
Still trying to track down the Auto Upgrades guys for a write-up. Seems theres more than one company of that name.

rascal axles are useable but you`ll be needing a 16 inch wheel, at least, to get anywhere near the right ratio. Rascal engines are mounted on a 45deg slant with the gearbox hanging off centre, to the right, so its not an in line setup like the reliants use. Trikeable yes,but on a small Manky type frame something will be hanging outside the framework.

Thanks Tbone :)
Didnt think the japs would do anything straightforward LOL.
When you see these vans flying around mechanics are well hidden.

I`m thinking about trying one out at some stage, maybe after my next build, cant see any reason why it couldnt be mounted vertically other than maybe having to alter the oil pick up pipe in the sump, until i get hold of one and have a play, i wont know for sure.

I would still like to build a Reliant Indian style bobber, but it will have to be when I get this trike finished or I will never get it done.

Does anyone look at the R3W site?

It is a Reliant based site that has some really great members.
All very helpful and throw up some really interesting threads.

I am The King of Oblivion on their site.
(Can anyone work out why?) I'd be intrigued to know if the sussed why.

Fellow "Trikers"...
Give it a look.
