Title: All cut up. Post by: Manky Monkey on November 22, 2005, 09:48:49 PM I bought an old Sherpa van on Sunday. 100 quid on Ebay. Gonna use the axles, suspension, steering, steering column, fuel tank etc on my hotrod project. Trouble is I've got to remove them & dispose of the rest of the van somehow. So Flap & I will be attacking it with hacksaws & angle grinders this Sunday, (27th). Easiest way to get to the bits I want is to remove the body then unbolt them from the bare chassis.
Anyone wanna come to a garage party? Bring your own hacksaw. :) Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: critch on November 25, 2005, 05:26:35 PM love to, distance is however a problem...... :-[
i was thinking of dropping off those bits around the 14th of jan, is that acceptable?? im thinking i dont have to bring the reliant lump with me just the front end, wheels, axle, seat, and tank is that right?? and of course the cash ;D Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: Manky Monkey on November 25, 2005, 07:19:03 PM Cash? Did you mention cash?! Yup, O.K. I've got really behind with everything lately. Taken on far too many projects & got snowed under. Going to fulfill the outstanding obligations then take a breather for a while I think. Just want to get out in the Spring & do some miles -preferably with all the other Monkies. Still aiming to have 'em all on the road for early May.
Ska Man, if you're reading this, I need to have a word about Mr Critch's project -no more in your garage after that one I promise! Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: ska-man on November 25, 2005, 10:02:45 PM :-\
Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: Manky Monkey on November 25, 2005, 10:07:16 PM Knew you'd say that!
Just a bare metal frame, not a full build. The last obligation. I promised Mr Critch many months ago I'd do it. Wanna split the cash 50/50 with me & help me knock it out in a week or so? No more after that I promise!! You can have your garage back, eventually, & I'll even sweep the floor! Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: ska-man on November 26, 2005, 09:48:49 PM I must be mad, but lets go for it (all done in one week)have you said that befor? ;D
Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: Manky Monkey on November 27, 2005, 08:32:07 AM Err, yeah, lots of times! Manky weeks are much longer than normal weeks.
So we'll get stuck into Critchie's in the New Year then. That gives me a month to sort Rainbow's basic frame & finish mine. A Manky month though. Yes Critch, bring the parts you listed. We've got a dummy engine & box here. Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: Manky Monkey on November 28, 2005, 02:27:47 PM Flap & I ventured over the bridge into Wales last week & collected a beat up Sherpa van that I'd bought on Ebay. It weighed a ton -well & ton & a half actually, but his 30 year old Landy managed to lug it back along the M4 to Basingstoke at a respectable 50mph & we parked it outside my flat.
This week I drove it to my lock-up, discovering along the way that it didn't actually have any brakes -at all, so I had to use the handbrake to slide to a halt at each junction. Interesting. I need to strip out the axles, suspension & steering for my long term hotrod project, (it'd be a quick project if I had some cash to spend on it but I haven't, so it isn't). Without heavy duty lifting gear, the easiest way to get to the bits I want is to take the body off -enter Mr Angle Grinder. Took us about two hours to turn a van into a cabriolet. The garage is behind a parade of shops in the middle of a council estate. Sparks & dust everywhere, lots of bashing & creaking & general sounds of destruction. Nobody said a word. No-one came to see what the hell we were doing. Could've broken into all the garages with a sledge hammer & no-one would bother to investigate. Glad I've got lots of locks on my door! We cut down to the floor line, leaving us with a big pile of scrap metal to get rid of, & pushed the carcass into the garage. Had to cut the roof off anyway cos it wouldn't have fitted otherwise. Can't reach any of the trike parts stored in the garage now so need to strip the rest down as soon as possible. The engine runs suprisingly well so will try & flog it on Ebay to recoup some of the cost. Title: Re: All cut up. Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: Manky Monkey on November 29, 2005, 12:16:07 PM NOW you tell me! Where were you when we needed a hand?! Was like being on Scrapheap Challenge -except we didn't produce anything useful at the end of it, just a pile of scrap. Not sure how to get rid of the unwanted bits now. Can't take car parts to the local tip. Do car breakers take scrap metal? Do they collect?
Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: BikerGran on November 29, 2005, 01:58:33 PM You could ring em up and ask?
Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: Manky Monkey on November 29, 2005, 02:38:06 PM Far too easy. Thought I'd park it somewhere, minus the bits I want, & wait for someone to nick it. :D

Post by: Manky Monkey on November 30, 2005, 12:24:25 PM Happy you'll be shifting all those bits out of your garage & into ours? Have you got your front end sorted, (!)? What's it from & has it got a headstock with it? If not we'll need to get some bearing cups machined up, which might take a week or two. Would need you to send us a set of taper roller bearings for it so we can machine the cups to suit.
Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: critch on December 05, 2005, 07:22:23 PM its off a gsx750 et i will sort out bearing asap and there is no headstock and im stuck in work all this week :-\
ive nearly got all the trike tek stuff sorted for you .... Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: Manky Monkey on December 05, 2005, 08:05:03 PM No problem. Will need the top & bottom headstock bearings. Usually about 20 quid a set from somewhere like M & P. If you can send 'em down when you're ready I can get the bearing cups machined up to suit.
Title: Re: All cut up. Post by: critch on December 10, 2005, 08:20:06 PM right -o im off to thebearing suppliers on monday with the old ones ;)
