Title: my expensive day off
Post by: tbone on August 30, 2008, 06:23:47 AM
Had a day off yesterday and decided to do something about the wheels on my bedford rascal van, which i bought 3 months ago with the intention of driving into the ground. The o.e wheels are 12" and tiny, so off to the breakers to find something bigger. 20 mins later and i now have 5, 14" wheels with 195/65 tyres on, all 5 for £20. The rear ones will drop straight on but a quick look and methinks i will have to get lower profile tyres for the front.
Next stop is my local motor accessories shop, a small old skool type shop complete with man in a brown smock, £44 worse off but now in possesion of 2 1 1/4" wheel spacer axle kits.
Home at last for a cuppa n out with the tools, rear nuts loosend, rear jacked up, wheel off, spacer on and hey presto 1 bigger wheel fitted. Round the other side, and Bugger, the studs are`nt in great nick and wont take the new extended adaptors. Off out again to trawl the only 2 engineering suppliers in town for a 12mm x 1.25 die (rascal wheel stud thread). Get one at the second attempt for £33.61. Back home and second rear wheel sorted out. Move to the front and yep....tyres are too big. Off to the tyre shop and 2 x 195/55 tyres fitted for £55 each.
All in all the `new` bigger wheels cost nearly what i paid for the van and still are`nt fited cos i wanna paint them first!!! lol

 ;D
You & me both K. The money I've spent on ideas that work great in my head but fall apart when I try to put them into practice. If there's a wrong & expensive way to do something, I'll go for it every time.
