Title: Re: trike back lights Post by: Manky Monkey on May 29, 2008, 06:21:43 PM Rear lights.
Minimum height 250mm. Maximum height 1500mm. Vehicles wider than 1300mm must be fitted with 2 position lamps. Vehicles wider than 1300mm must have 600mm between illuminated surfaces. Vehicles less than 1300mm wide may have 400mm between illuminated surfaces. The measurement is taken from the appropriate edge of the lens, not the centre. Vehicles less than 1300mm wide may have a single rear position light but I'm not sure if that has to be centrally mounted, (all pairs of lights must be symetrically mounted). Rear indicators. 2, or 4 maximum. Minimum height 350mm. Maximum height 1500mm. Maximum 400mm from outermost edge of vehicle. Minimum 500mm between illuminated surfaces. Keep plugging away at it mate. Title: Re: trike back lights Post by: Tori on July 03, 2008, 01:20:29 PM Is this for sva or mot? i had no idea my lights should be a certain distance from the ground. Oops! I'm sure they're fine though.
Title: Re: trike back lights Post by: tazet on July 03, 2008, 01:32:15 PM They not only have to be a certain height but they have to be set at a max width to the trike too. Marker lights/reflectors are also required to show the full width of the trike, front and back.
Title: Re: trike back lights Post by: Manky Monkey on July 03, 2008, 03:14:06 PM For MSVA Tori.
The MOT's only checking things work & are safe. It assumes it's already legal measurement wise by being registered for road use. There's a yellow ring binder available from the DVLA for about 30 quid that contains all the relevant info for MSVA. That's what I've quoted from. You need a marker light to show the width of the vehicle, white showing towards the front & red to the rear. They have to be within 400mm of the edge of the vehicle. You also need red reflectors at the back, (not triangular ones). Title: Re: trike back lights Post by: Tori on July 03, 2008, 08:32:35 PM Ahhh I'm cool then I think.. Just going for mot end of aug/beginning of september. It's been a long time coming finishing this project, and I can't wait to see it on the road. My heart, soul, tears, blood, burnt hair and chapped fingers and broken nails have gone into it. :)
