Title: Solid brake lines
Post by: flc on January 28, 2008, 01:45:24 PM
Hi folks a question on brake pipes, on my girders i want to run copper lines from the calipers up the inside of the legs (instead of using normal flexi hose) , can you get the tackle to do this?

Yep you need a flaring tool.

Used to be able to get a kit to make your own lines for cars, Draper may still make a set, and try car restoration supply companies. copper brake lines from the same places too.

Post pictures when you start I'd like to see that.

No problem TP, i take then i can use car type threaded bits (very technical term) with the flared pipe ends. mmm weve got a flaring tool at work, thanks for these response will keep you posted. Mick.

You can only use the car parts if they are the right thread.

ebay has a few sets going, or u could run the flexy inside a tube be it copper or stainless

Bugger, was planning the same idea for the girders on Taz's trike too, only using Goodrich flexible hose on the front & copper car type pipes on the rest of the trike. Goodrich do a coloured sleeving -sorta like heat shrink sleeve, in various colours. I was thinking either gold to simulate the copper pipes, or black?

::) Actually the solid brake lines were my idea. When I saw manky's flexable ones I said not on mine. The solid pipe would be more in keeping with the style of my trike. so ner ner ne ner ner  :P Now go to bed you two with no supper.  ;D

Hi all, new here and just saw this thread, hope I'm not too late:
May I suggest steel, better yet, stainless? Reason being, copper 'work hardens' & develops stress risers from flex & vibration, then sudden catastrophic failure, no warning. Most concentrated vibration at fittings, plus that's already been work hardened by flaring tool. Don't want anybody getting hurt....

on most harleys they are solid pipes top and bottom with the middle only rubber to allow  for the travel so you could use solid
all the way so check out a harley for ideas
