Title: Alternative Carb
Post by: Phixer on January 11, 2008, 07:38:19 PM
On a reliant engine what alternative carb can you use, I was wonder if a single 40 webber with a crossflow manifold could be adapted to fit.....I don't like the SU's ::)

Don't like SUs! You heathen! They're gorgeous!
I've got a couple of 40 Webbers sat in my lock up, plus a Haynes manual on tuning them. Mark 1 Fiesta Webbers work well on Reliants, (got a feeling they might be 38s but could well be wrong). Haven't tried them, but 40s might prove a little large -pouring more fuel down the throat of the motor won't necessarily automatically improve performance. There was a 40 on an adapted Reliant manifold for sale on Ebay recently, so presumably it can be done.

40's are probably a little large, 40's over 36's are about a 24% increase in bore area the motor may struggle to draw that hard enough to properly atomise the fuel.
How much do you want for them ?

Told you so!  :)
The Webbers were free to me, (originally intended for the Jag engine in my abandoned track T project & given to me by Ska Man).
So free to you if you can make use of 'em. Come over & pick 'em up & take a look at the Pop, the V8 motor & the trike at the same time. Oh, & collect the trailie front end we borrowed from you too! ;)

ByzMax & I speculated on using a bank of 4 bike carbs on a Reliant, an idea used on several sports kitcars.
