Title: Sidecar rules for my vs750 can i have one?? Post by: Bikerpsyco on December 02, 2007, 07:45:14 PM Hi guys dont know if any of you will know but i am interested in getting a sidecar for my vs750 cruiser, the thing is "am i aloud one?" im 20 passed my test 2 years ago and only have my motorcycle licence and no car licence,
i phoned dvla a while ago and they said i cant have a Trike unless its a single seat , under a cirtain weight limit and has to have L plates, but i suppose a motorbike and side car cant be classed as a trike can it??, i just want to know if i can have one and have passengers aswell unlike with a trike having all these restrictions? also if im aloud one am i aloud a person on the bac of the bike and a person in the sidecar????? i know years ago you could have pretty much what you want but you cant even breath without asking. cheers chris Title: Re: Sidecar rules for my vs750 can i have one?? Post by: Hillbilly Deluxe on December 03, 2007, 11:12:20 AM As far as im aware, you can have a trike ,trikes can be ridden on a full car or bike license.and as for sidecars,if you've passed your full bike license, you can have one.
Anyone else know different ? Title: Re: Sidecar rules for my vs750 can i have one?? Post by: BikerGran on December 03, 2007, 11:38:57 AM Trikes can only be ridden on a bike licence if you had the bike licence before the rules changed, you need to check the DVLA or VOSA website (can't remember which one has the rules!). Otherwise it has to be a car licence. Whatever you do, don't take what's said on various trike sites cos they are not always up to date.
As for a sidecar, I think you only need a bike licence but check your licence and see what it says. Title: Re: Sidecar rules for my vs750 can i have one?? If you pass your test now you only get car (B) and trike/three wheeled vehicle/milk float (B1) When I passed my test this was not the case and I do not have this on my licence so not sure if I can ride a trike or not.

Post by: BikerGran on December 04, 2007, 02:46:11 PM Found this on the net re sidecars and trikes categories:
Quote A Motorcycles (with or without a sidecar) up to 25kw or 33 horsepower and a power-to-weight ratio of up to 0.16kw/kg B1 Motor tricycles and quadricycles weighing up to 550kg when unladen And just for Klogan: Quote f Agricultural tractors g Roadrollers h Tracked vehicles k Pedestrian-controlled vehicles (those powered by a person) p Mopeds Full document: A General Guide to Driving Licences (http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/idcplg?IdcService=GET_FILE&dID=92228&Rendition=Web) I couldn't find anything like this on the very UN user-friendly dvla site - it took good old Google to find it!
