Title: More Russian Crap
Post by: reliantman on October 05, 2007, 05:36:52 PM
I bought a complete Dnepr MT11 in bits, and got a Ural rolling chassis with it.
This was to provide spares for my trike project, but I have enough to build a chop as well.

Heres some to be going on with,

I was going to do this before, but then decided to trike it.

Have I seen that pic of the blue chop before?

You have.
I farted about with all sorts of combinations while I was just chopping the Ural, then decided to trike it. Now I have a similar frame I am reusing the bits, and am going to fit the Dnepr lump to the trike as it is a better engine. Also the mudguards and any other stuff I can bung on.

if you ever find yourself with a spare frame that is no longer required  ;) as I do love the old Neval/Ural/Dnieper frames with the low seat rails, almost plunger looking ;D ;D ;D

I would be willing to swap the Dnepr for bits. I have robbed the forks though.

what bits would you be after? and I will see what I have got ;D ;D

Not really sure myself.
If its not too cheeky to ask, sort out some crap you can do without, make a list and see what happens?

Ta.
Its not going to be a show bike, strictly ratty.

Nice to see someone doing something a little different.

More of a case of no money.

Post by: Manky Monkey on October 07, 2007, 09:13:29 PM
We know that feeling!
Doesn't have to be ratty just cos it's low budget.

See how it goes.

No worry. I would'nt mind some trailie forks.  :D

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: Manky Monkey on October 09, 2007, 08:32:55 AM
That would make a nice trike engine wouldn't it.

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: reliantman on October 09, 2007, 08:54:05 AM
When I asked the local DVLA about changing the bike logbook to a trike, they said it was easy if it was just a weld on, but also they said about the points system which means you have to keep the same engine, forks and major bits.
I am going to try and get it re-registered without too much hassle, then play about with different engines, leading link forks ect.

Here is a rat Dnepr trike.

I have a seat that I think will fit your chop, I was going to bung it on eBay. I will take a picture today for you.

Found out today that the 12 volt alternator off the Dnepr has vanished into the black hole of the old owners shed, so I am going to fit a car jobbie.
It should be easier on this one, as on the Ural the dynamo was a press fit into the casing, but the Dnepr has two studs holding it on.

Shaun.
Just out of interest, what are the physical dimentions of your 1200 NSU lump, and how rare are they?

Title: Re: More Russian Crap

No worry.
Its not going anywhere at the moment.
I have set myself the target of having the Ural/Dnepr chop on the road for next summer, but I have said that a few times before now.

Post by: reliantman on October 20, 2007, 04:14:38 PM
I did a little bit more today.
Welded on the seat mounting, and tried the 16 inch Jawa sidecar wheel I have here.

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: Manky Monkey on October 20, 2007, 05:51:01 PM
I like that but I think I'd have to mount the seat much lower to close up the gaps between tank, seat & frame. Looking good though mate.

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: reliantman on October 20, 2007, 06:01:28 PM
I agree it looks a bit bare now, but by the time it has an alternator, carb, exausts and all the other gubbins fitted it should look a bit better.

True. Hadn't thought of that.

lots of groovy ruskies on there, can i have one for my birthday ?gwan, gwan, its tomorow though  ;D wouldnt care ,but when i got my GSX 750,i could have had a brand new, rigid 650 Ural, that was built by the importers years ago as some kind of display/show bike,so all brand new, just needed wiring and registering for £400!!!!!!

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: reliantman on October 22, 2007, 11:45:03 AM
Sounds like a Ural Cobra. Yellow & black with a tacky cobra painted on the tank?

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: Hillbilly Deluxe on October 22, 2007, 01:25:58 PM
not at all, this bike was built in the late 70,s,and was a complete one off,one off frame, tank, guards, car alternator conversion, springer forks 5.10 x 16 rear,21" front, amal carbs, ground up build by the importer.

Post by: reliantman on October 22, 2007, 01:29:11 PM
I spose it would have been a bit of culture shock if you bought it. GSX or Cossack?

Hard choice. :D

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: Hillbilly Deluxe on October 22, 2007, 01:36:55 PM
cossack, gsx is prob one of the blandest ujm's there is,does absolutely nothing for me,was cheap though.

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: reliantman on October 22, 2007, 02:22:54 PM
Cheaper bits for the Ural, but it probably would'nt do more than 60.

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: panthershaun on October 25, 2007, 10:04:24 AM
sorry its taken me so long  :-[

NSU engine is 24 inches long and 25 inches tall at the highest part, rotates the opposite way to most engines apart from a Nimbus.
Here is a picture of my mates NSU engined Indian replica and my engine

Title: Re: More Russian Crap
Post by: panthershaun on October 25, 2007, 10:08:54 AM
Custom seat is 19 inches long and 9.5 at the widest part.
I really need around £10.00 for plus p&p as I am totally brassic at the moment and have a Pop that needs building ::) as for the frame swap, I will have to give that a miss as I have more than enough to keep me going for a couple of years before I even start on the NSU.

Shaun.
Thanks for posting those NSU pics. Is that the bike that was on the VI forum?
I am going to go with the Ural tractor seat for now, as I have to rebuild the Dnepr lump and all my spare cash is going on that.

I just saw this on Ebay Germany. It goes in your Ural or Dnepr tool kit.
When the bike is stuck at the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, you set light to it and the flames will attract passing motorists.
Works with Reliants as well.
