Title: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: Manky Monkey on May 26, 2007, 06:44:32 PM Erm, not so special actually.
Lunatics, both junior & senior & I braved nose to tail traffic on the M25/A40 this lunchtime to do this one, with Tazet sat further back in the same queue, having had to work late. Finally reached the Ace to find the carpark desolutely empty. A few bikes & one very lonely 60s Mustang. Not a "Lowrider" in sight. What a disappointment. I guess there probably aren't that many ground scrapers in this country -we haven't got the roads for 'em, but one or two would've been nice. Eventually the blue Merc arrived. Very nice -& a regular at Valley Gas Speeed Shop, my local hotrod emporium. Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: Manky Monkey on May 27, 2007, 09:44:32 AM Engine was as tidy as the body. Fuel injection's been swapped for a bank of Webers, but the owner says the linkages need some work cos it revs of it's own accord sometimes. Nice machine though.

Didn't look smooth enough to be the genuine article so maybe a modern home made copy? Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: Manky Monkey on May 27, 2007, 09:53:20 AM Nice old Rickman fairinged Trumpet's an Ace regular.
The black one behind it's a brand new, unregistered Bonnie. Seems to be a common thing at the cafe for local bike shops to display new bikes. last time I was there, there was a line up of new BMWs. Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: Manky Monkey on May 27, 2007, 10:05:50 AM Eventually a second Mustang & a nice old Falcon arrived. The Falcon appeared to be race prepped with full roll cage, uprated brakes & suspension etc, but may have just been for modern road use. None of the cars there are what I'd define as Lowriders but at least they made the effort to show.

Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: Manky Monkey on May 27, 2007, 10:13:11 AM The Lowrider meet was advertised as a pre Chelsea Cruise get-together, so when we left we threaded our way across town to Battersea to hunt for rods & customs. According to the NSRA forum several were heading that way, but the only one we saw was this old model A in the traffic at Gypsy Corner.

Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: lunatic on May 28, 2007, 12:31:16 PM They're not lowriders, they're kustoms! These are lowriders....
Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: Manky Monkey on May 28, 2007, 03:23:50 PM Don't look very low to me!
I refuse to be drawn into the definition argument! Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: lunatic on May 28, 2007, 06:20:10 PM Don't look very low to me! Good. ;) as I reckon the lines between all these types of cars are pretty blurred! If you take a '64 impala and flame it, on 5 spokes and on airbags its a kustom, same car but no flames, wire wheels and some murals and its a lowrider! Its madness! ???I refuse to be drawn into the definition argument! Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: Manky Monkey on May 28, 2007, 09:48:39 PM Precisely!
Title: Re: Ace Cafe Lowrider Special. Post by: BikerGran on May 29, 2007, 11:45:38 PM I'd happily take this home. Whatever it is.

Post by: Manky Monkey on May 30, 2007, 10:13:57 AM Nice, but I'm not sure about those truck grilles. They remind me of the masks the guys who stand behind the batsmen at baseball games wear.
How about this? Buick? Looks like something from a 30s inspired Batman cartoon. Nice pickup in the background of the first shot. |
