Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: brock on February 24, 2007, 07:03:33 PM Hi, sorry, read this first time round , had a bit of a think , went away to do a bit of research , promptly forgot all about it !
The SE6 that I used to have is an entirely different beast , fitted with the 3Ltr Essex V6 , awfull siderail gearbox and Salisbury lsd axle, great fun to drive but not trike material. The SS1 has (I think ) the CVH , type 9 and irs similar to Sierras, probably not what you want if you are looking for a minimalist type setup , however, I think that there might be an interesting little project just waiting to be released from all that fibreglass and steel. The type 9 gearbox will put the shift lever a long way back but auto's were available and one of these would solve that little problem, the best bit might be the rear end, the diff is already in it's own little cage and the trailing arms are of pretty simple design and with a little thought could be reused or replicated in prettier stuff. The whole package will weigh a fair bit more than a reliant so a bit of careful consideration of the front end would be in order , leading link or girders maybe ? Link shows a bit of detail of the rear end http://homepage.ntlworld.com/phil.wormald/index.htm have fun Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: triker9999 on February 24, 2007, 07:38:51 PM hi guys!
thanks Brock for your input. (and Manky for chasing him for me!) has given me a few ideas, but like you say, its not what you might call minimal is it ! already got a 2ltr ford sapphire auto sat here. that was gonna be donor, but again , its a weight issue. was really wanting bike fork setup , but i think both these would need leading link arrangement. whatever way i go, its gotta start haoppening soon, it was sunny here today, first one for ages, and i SO wanted to be out cruisin around. so, have set myself a bit of a task, booking my tickets for The Rock & Blues, and hopefully arriving there on new shiny trike! :D :D :D :D looks like the hunt for a Robin or Rialto starts again! keep your eyes peeled guys! ride safe Mark Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: Manky Monkey on February 24, 2007, 08:45:55 PM Hmmmm, a 2 litre Ford eh. Just the sort of thing to go in my Pop. If you don't use it I could give it a loving new home.
Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: triker9999 on February 24, 2007, 08:57:45 PM hi Boss Primate,
The Sapphire is a 2ltr DOHC with EFi mated to a 4Speed Autobox. If i get no further with using the Sapphire as a donor, i'll let you know. Only problem is i am in Blackpool ! ! ! Not exactly local to you ! ! ! Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: Manky Monkey on February 24, 2007, 09:07:40 PM Distance is never a problem. I quite enjoy travelling about. Fuel injection? Sounds complicated but if it's just a matter of pulling it out of one car & shoe-horning it all into another it'd be O.K
IRS rear end? Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: brock on February 24, 2007, 09:09:07 PM could always use a Jag , hmmmm , where could you find one of those ?
Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: triker9999 on February 24, 2007, 09:16:30 PM IRS , semi trailing arms and coil springs with tele shocks.
hope this helps Chief Chimp ! ! ! Mark Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: Manky Monkey on February 24, 2007, 09:41:55 PM cool
Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: BikerGran on February 24, 2007, 10:58:52 PM could always use a Jag , hmmmm , where could you find one of those ? ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: Manky Monkey on February 25, 2007, 08:47:04 PM I would love to use the Jag motor. It's been sat outside, unprotected for about a year & a half now. Gawd knows what state it's in. It was a fuel injection model but we junked all that gubbins in the belief we could magic up a carb inlet & distributor & actually get it to run. If it could be done. I'd still love to do it.
I'd like to use the '27 T box section chassis & Sherpa front beam axle with it's disc brakes, together with the rear one, both narrowed to suit -but I keep getting voted down. :( Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: lunatic on February 25, 2007, 08:51:38 PM I vote for! ;D
Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: Manky Monkey on February 25, 2007, 08:54:41 PM I suspect you'll vote for anything that involves chopping it up with an angle grinder!
Title: Re: RELIANT SS1 Post by: lunatic on February 25, 2007, 08:58:12 PM Yay! ;D
