Title: 12th Hotrod Hayride & Last Time at Bisley Post by: JayJay on July 31, 2016, 09:29:56 PM Chevy Rick and I have just returned from the Hotrod Hayride held at Bisley. For those of you who have never heard of it, it is a retro three day event that brings together many different nationalities, from all walks of life and all ages to enjoy a relaxed time with great music and with loads of hotrods and classic American vehicles to admire. It is great to see vehicles you've enjoyed in previous years but even better to see ones that have been newly finished, recently imported or are drivable works in progress. This year Valley Gas (think Chilli night) had a fantastic Art Deco garage setup. It was brilliant with repro pumps and a super sign that lit up plus lots of extras. They managed to put it up in a day. I expect they plan to use it at lots of shows. As usual, Valley Gas had a great assortment of vehicles on show especially some beautiful Chevys.
Bisley is a fantastic setting with its old buildings and small village feel. Bisley is home to the National Rifle Association and many other gun clubs and all the while the Hayride is going on so is the shooting on the indoor and outdoor ranges. :o Many of the gun clubs have some great buildings and if you're not camping or caravanning in your period home from home, then you can rent rooms or like Rick and I, a chalet with a wrap around verandah. Trés posh! 8) Sadly though this was the last Hayride at Bisley. Such a great experience has come to an end. Many people described it as 'An end of an era'. You could not create such a fantastic vibe anywhere else. Next year it will be at an old airfield in Headcorn in Ashford, Kent. There won't be any accommodation other than camping so I think they will need heck of a lot of facilities brought in to cater for the massive turnout they have seen at Bisley. No accommodation means you would have to stay locally and then turn up for each day. Terrible for the drinkers. :'( It wouldn't suit me either. It's been nice to be able to nip back to the chalet for a cuppa, a nap or to just sit on the verandah and people watch. Never mind I have had a good run at Bisley and some good times to remember. I suppose it's a bit like Wheels Day at Rushmoor Arena being moved to Dunsfold. Most of us miss Rushmoor Arena. The chap in this truck, Keith, is the one who built the fibre glass pumps in front of the Valley Gas garage. The garage facade he is in front of in this pic is a place very near to our chalet but we didn't know it existed in Bisley until Keith's wife Karen showed us a photo of it. Great background for shots like this one. (http://i.imgur.com/CxZ9Pb6.jpg) This car looked fantastic close up especially looking at it standing in front of the 'hood'. The way the paint had been scraped off made it look like a work of art even though that wasn't the intention of the scraper. The custom work on the body also added to that feel. The front wheel arches were only a gnat's tooth above the tyres. (http://i.imgur.com/H8JCi1L.jpg) This really caught our eye. It turns out it is a Ford with a custom woody rear and a BMW engine. I think it looks like Herman Munster should own it. It was really well done.
