Post by: Mendalot on January 07, 2016, 04:46:48 PM
This popped up in my genres on you tube and I thought, I know a man who may find this intriguing .....   You have to put up with the prat doing the video, but just wait until you hear the cost of these things ::)

It's a bit over the top for me.

Dam'n some of those have a lot of work in them. This was almost the first thing I made when I got the lathe, as a bit of fun for the kids. Nothing like the detail or work that those in the vid have. But spins well on the glass cooker top. ;D
24mm diameter with a hardened steel centre.

I had a go at one this afternoon, just to see how long it took,  havnt tried it yet as only just found a small ball bearing to glue in the end, left it drying in the workshop. will post piccy tomorrow.  :D

May be starting a fad on here. Then again, perhaps not. :D
The ball bearing idea is a good one. I may try making one with an aluminium core and a brass rim when I have some free time.

I did it the other way round with odds and sods from the off cut shelves, brass core with aluminium rim. Its good to have a play.

Bit wobbly but I put that down to the rusty ball bearing, its pretty grim when you zoom in but it was the only one I could find ::)

;D Great idea for a bit of fun !
Though my best spin time so far is only 3 min. 55 sec. so I may need to think the design through a bit more. :-\
